This nursing home is very welcoming. I visit it every year to see my grandfather, the staff are attentive and spend time with him whenever they can. They provide healthy and nutritious food and they also provide food for the visitors. They keep them entertained by holding different events such as raffles. Overall this is a wonderful home where there is a sense of belonging, would definitely recommend.

This nursing home is exceptional. I cannot describe the relief my father, brother and I felt when our mum Kathy was admitted for care here after a difficult time in hospital. People greeted us with friendly smiles and introduced themselves, from the chef to cleaners to carers. They asked what mum liked and didn't like to eat, as she wasn't eating or drinking much. They demonstrated loving kindness to mum, it meant so much for her to received tender loving care during the last month of her life. They also took excellent care of us, and our family and friends, when we visited. The Matron Khadiga Orta, or Kay as we called her, was just fantastic and set a great tone in the nursing home. Tijo and Tinto were so kind, but to be honest all the staff were great. They gave us amazing support through the most difficult time of our lives. My brother is a GP who specializes in geriatric and palliative care, and he says it's the best nursing home he has ever been to. We feel privileged to have had our mum stay here during her final weeks, and owe them a debt of gratitude.

My Dad was admitted here last year from hospital to a supposed 'hospital bed' for 14 nights whilst I looked for a suitable care home for him. This was following a leg amputation due to vascular dementia and lack of blood supply in his leg. He was in tremendous pain. The home could not provide even the basics for his needs. He was there for only 4 nights. During this time he was in a tiny, dull, damp carpeted room with very little care. His stump dressing remained unchanged for the whole time! The equipment in his room was not suitable at all for an amputee. The food was not suitable for a patient with a swallowing problem and he very quickly deteriorated and became severely dehydrated. I asked them to call a GP and was told no. I threatened that I would call and on day 4 they finally did and he was emergency readmitted due to all of the above. He subsequently passed away. This was a gentleman who had left hospital quite jovial and singing, even following his operation. This place is dirty, the staff are incompetent and I would not recommend it to anyone following discharge from hospital. I saw other patients there also in very similar circumstances and reported this to the NHS complaints department. Please think very carefully before choosing this home !

My Grandfather was transferred over to this home from hospital. He was only there for a few days. I wasn't able to get to see him because of work commitments and the poor weather. I went to see him, and he looked awful! No response from him at all and he looked VERY poorly. I was told by one of the staff that his vitals were fine. I was not convinced and asked them to carry out a Blood Pressure test whilst I was there. The result was 90 over 60! I said that was low, but they said it was normal! Anyway I insisted a Dr or Ambulance came out. They said there was no need as he was fine. I pulled out my phone and threatened to call 999 and was really getting angry! They then reluctantly called an out of hours Dr. He came and straight away said he was not right! And called a normal ambulance to take him to hospital. The ambulance crew then found he was VERY poorly and needed a paramedic ambulance instead. When he was admitted to hospital he was put in intensive care! And it really was touch and go. His Blood pressure fell lower and his Kidney function was at about 26% of what it should of been. He had Pneumonia and a infection! Had I not insisted on a Dr being called, I'm not sure he would still be here. He's still in hospital now but he is now "comfortable" and no longer on a drip or constant oxygen. I thank god I went that night!

Excellent nursing Home Care in the peaceful surroundings of Etwall, Derbyshire.
Kaye, Tijo and the team have always been extremely caring and professional in their approach.
Medical care in the form of GP visits or A&E attendances have always been available when required. It can often be difficult to know when a chronic NH resident requires medical attention but staff at Old Lodge are particularly skilled in this regard.
