Please do not let the negative reviews put you off Fryern Surgery. I have been a patient for 14 years and on the two occasions that I've been unhappy, I contacted the Practice Manager with my concerns and it was dealt with swiftly and professionally. It really isn't fair to name a doctor and give a negative review online without giving the surgery an opportunity to investigate. Having only met someone once is not reflective of how they are. Also we are only hearing one side of the story. Naming a doctor the way the complainant did is wrong and damaging.

Fryern Surgery has been excellent to my family and I. We have never been refused an urgent appointment. The receptionists, nurses and staff have been excellent with great people skills.

My family and I have seen Dr McKenna many times over the 14 years and she has always, without exception, been respectful, cheerful, kind and compassionate. She even visited me at home when I was seriously ill. Her care and support over the years has been invaluable to my family and I and we shall always be grateful. There are many genuinely caring doctors here and I highly recommend Fryern Surgery.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with the treatment I received during my recent appointment with Dr. McKenna. This was my first time seeing Dr. McKenna, and I went in with serious concerns regarding a knee injury that has left me unable to walk without significant pain. From the moment I walked into the examination room, Dr. McKenna was dismissive and unprofessional.

Upon seeing me walk (for all of two seconds) with a noticeable limp, Dr. McKenna laughed and immediately declared that I was "clearly fine" and hadn't broken my knee. I had not claimed that my knee was broken, but I was concerned about a serious injury, which is why I sought medical attention. Throughout the appointment, Dr. McKenna barely listened to my concerns, was extremely patronizing, and even remarked, "I’m not your mother," when I tried to explain the pain I was experiencing and how it’s been affecting my day to day life. Her tone and attitude were passive-aggressive, and she made me feel as though I was an inconvenience rather than a patient in need of care.

When Dr. McKenna decided to prescribe a painkiller, I attempted to ask about the appropriate dosage and frequency. Instead of providing clear guidance, she responded dismissively with, "I was about to tell you that," but then never actually provided the necessary information. I had to research on my own to determine how to take the medication safely.

Her behavior was so inappropriate and unprofessional that I felt compelled to cut the appointment short. The atmosphere she created was hostile and unwelcoming, which is entirely unacceptable in a healthcare setting, which I have learnt about as a Health and Social care student who has one of my A-levels in that subject area. I have even acted out scenarios just like this one in my college lessons to give examples on how to not treat a patient coming in with concerns. Now experiencing this in real life first hand, I can completely see why it’s so important that even students who potentially want to work in healthcare are properly taught how to treat their patients. Clearly McKenna must have missed these lessons, if only I could have invited her to my knowledgeable and helpful health and social care lessons. Additionally, Dr. McKenna inappropriately brought up my history of depression and incorrectly stated that I was on antidepressants, which was completely irrelevant to the issue at hand and factually incorrect. This was both inappropriate and distressing.

I have been a patient at this practice for 11 years, but this experience has led me to switch to a different GP surgery. Never before have I been treated with such a lack of empathy, professionalism, and respect by a healthcare professional. I am deeply concerned that Dr. McKenna's behavior is indicative of a broader issue and not just an isolated incident.

As I left, Dr. McKenna mentioned that she would be noting this interaction in my file. I sincerely hope that this is done accurately because, if her conduct is recorded truthfully, it would undoubtedly raise serious questions about her suitability for this profession. I strongly urge the practice to review this incident and take appropriate action to ensure that no other patient has to endure such an appalling experience.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Absolutely fantastic surgery, easy to get an appointment, GPs are all friendly, approachable and listen, and reception staff are kind and also listen. Honestly couldn't fault Fryern Surgery, and when I hear others' experiences with different surgeries it makes me wonder if we're even on the same continent!

The worst surgery our family has ever encountered. Let my father down badly and was told he had panic attacks when he was in fact in respiratory failure and close to death. In death they promised paperwork would be completed by the Monday and then it was not and we were lied to and told paperwork would be another day to complete. Zero compassion or care for the patient or the family in difficult times. Avoid this surgery they do not care!

I had severe abdominal pain and was seen by a GP the same day. They then organised a referral to the Gastro department which was booked very promptly.
