HyPhOE at 2019 MRS Fall meeting in Boston

The HyPhOE project was very well represented at the 2019 MRS Fall meeting in Boston, with 7 members participating: Gabriella Buscemi, Massimo Trotta, Giorgio Mattana, Eleni Stavrinidou, Gwennael Dufil, Samia Zrig and Gianluca Farinola.

Eleni Stavrinidou and Massimo Trotta organized the SB03 symposium: Smart Materials, Devices and Systems for Interface with Plants and Microorganisms. The symposium was the first ever organized in MRS that focused at the interface of materials and devices with plants and microorganisms. SB03 symposium was very well received from the MRS community as it covered a wide range of topics and brought together scientists that wouldn’t normally attend the same meeting. Within the symposium many opportunities for coupling materials science and engineering principles with plants and bacteria were presented targeting: control and monitoring of physiology, energy harvesting, production of new materials, biohybrid devices, sustainable agriculture, and understanding fundamental process. The HyPhOE project is at the core of the research presented in the symposium and therefore sponsored the symposium.

HyPhOE members gave invited and contributed talks in SB03 but also in other symposiums.
