Positives: free car parking, very clean and tidy, patient meals are excellent, building has had a refurb and there are some very helpful staff.

Negatives: I’ve been in a lot of care settings, for long periods of time, but never experienced a place where some staff appear to have so much free time to chitchat about their personal lives between themselves, and aren’t helpful when you disturb them to ask something. Communication from staff can also be pretty poor and one person was particularly rude. I wouldn’t mind but they neglected to provide bed-bath/shower over several weeks and the patient’s skin became spotty; also developed thick scurf on the scalp. No physio was done which is what the patient had gone in for and equipment was frequently broken so patient had to remain in bed.

Aside from the few very helpful and caring staff, there’s a clicky and lazy culture that’s been allowed to go unmanaged. When talking to other relatives of patients they made the same observations….’all the gear but no idea’, ‘the place looks great but they don’t actually do much’.

Lovely New Hospital, free patient parking, great staff and doctors.
One small point could do with signage in X Ray. Its just all doors no reception desk. Just told later someone will magically appear!! If you haven't been before its very confusing.

Holidaying in Alstonefield and had an issue which needed medical help. Went in and registered at reception, which was quickly done. Sat down and had to wait 5 minutes, saw a lovely nurse who gave me some stronger antibiotics and all sorted in 15 minutes. Can’t thank
St Oswald’s enough for making, what I thought would be a difficult situation, into something that was dealt with very professionally and quickly.

Took my elderly father in law to have his dressing changed and wound checked after a bad fall having been advised by the hospital staff at A&E that no appointment would be necessary. On arrival was told that he should have made an appointment and bought his own fresh dressings with him! Really
Come on NHS, appreciate you've had a rough 18 months but since when has bringing your own first aid kit been a requirement?

Brought my wife and son to visit their dying mother/grandmother up from London. Only two "visitors allowed at the time" I was told. "There is a room near the entrance". So I went and sat there for an hour and then an officious nurse told me that I wasn't allowed to sit in this EMPTY room. I needed to go further down the corridor (hard chairs) or sit in my car.

I had an appointment today at 3 o'clock. Was seen and treated and on my way home at 4 o'clock. Everyone was so kind and friendly and treated me as a human being. No one talked over my head and everything was explained fully.

Clean & presentable establishment complemented with staff that are above all kind, then friendly. If you are an Ashbourne resident or live in 'The Dales' District then you are lucky to have this facility.
