I’m a typical squaddie so I’m stubborn and neglect myself always putting others first. Cormac Doyle from the Bridge Charity has been offering me help with EMDR and I’ve always put it off for some reason or other. But recently I hit a bit of a wall emotionally and it messed my head right up. So I thought I’d give it a go, I remained slightly sceptical, not for one minute doubting the treatment but doubting myself and whether it would work on me.

Most of you won't about know my involvement in organised crime but this lifestyle choice has exposed me to some extremely stressful situations and violent people for well over 15 years, as well as a hefty prison sentence.
So my PTSD, and I’ve never really referred to it as that was brought on by continuous exposure to that lifestyle.
Cormac was happy to do a house visit during the covid pandemic and we also managed to observe the gov guidelines.
All I can say now is after one session of treatment less than two weeks ago, my life has totally changed, for as long as I can remember I no longer feel anxiety or stress, and I don’t feel the need to be hyper vigilant, I can happily be in a crowded place without feeling the need to check every body out, I can sleep with the door unlocked, when my phone rings with an unidentified number it doesn’t bother me, the list goes on.
Cormac has said imagine what it'll be like after another session, my thoughts are "how can it get better than this?" I guess we'll just wait and see.
The message here is, don't be stubborn, find the help and embrace it.
Thank you Cormac and the work that you do, and thank you to all the other specialists and volunteers that constantly give up their time to support us.
