Surgery good, but there is one receptionist who is absolutely awful - would not allow me to ask about changing a prescription and didn't even want to hear the specifics, just point blank refused to listen. I'm writing this review because she is consistently rude and incredibly unhelpful. Every time you ask for an appointment she makes you feel like you should not be calling the doctor, not matter how severe the issue you may have. It is a real shame because the other receptionist is lovely and helpful.

One absolutely awful receptionist, seems to alternate with some refreshingly nice staff in her absence. However the woman in question is dismissive rude and won’t even let you talk about what the issue is just cuts you off and gives blunt vague answers that are supposedly “helpful” having been with this gp 5 years and the only time I’ve had any problems is with this particular lady (on more than one occasion) which is why I am now writing a review. Talking down to medically unwell people no matter what condition they come to you in is obscene behaviour from someone in a field built to help.
Seems she has left this impression on more than one person leading me to wonder why she chose this sector in the first place, rather puzzling.

I don’t normally write reviews but this place deserves more than the 3.7 rating it’s got at the moment. All the staff I’ve seen are friendly and do a great job: receptionists, nurses and doctors. I’ve lived in a few places around England, registered with other GP surgeries, and this’s by far my best experience.

Genuinely awful receptionist. Absolutely no care for patients, speaks to people down the phone like dirt on a shoe. Making rude remarks and sarcastic comments to people is abominable.

Absolutely disgusting surgery. Does not care about mental health and ADHD. Advised not to go there if you stuffer with any of theses. They Finn you off. Even called me a liar for saying I don’t have ADHD despite having being diagnosed by a top specialist in London. Absoute joke………….. should be shut down personally……

I have had a few health problems recently and needed to attend the surgery for various appointments.
I have to say that Iona, the receptionist come super hero, has been absolutely amazing. She has been kind, caring and considerate each time I have been in the surgery.
Iona has been on the front line of the surgery and has always remained professional and helpful while juggling so many jobs, usually at once. She always explains what she is doing to help me.
Tonight I watched her explain to a young lady, who was in pain and not feeling great, that she would be seen but would have to wait. As soon as Iona realised the lady wasn’t feeling well due to her accident, a doctor called her in within minutes.
Thank you Iona for helping me when I have needed it, remembering me as a vulnerable person and being so very kind and caring while being professional.
You really are amazing at your job.

I am a new patient to Widcombe Surgery and my recent appointment was a very positive experience. Dr Hodson was kind, informative and gave me some great advice. Thank you.

I visited the practice as a new patient, suffering from worrying heart irregularities. The friendly receptionist was immediately responsive and helpful in spite of the other demands of her work pulling her in several directions. I was led through the paperwork and then my case was triaged by medical staff before I was offered an immediate appointment reserved for urgent cases. Dr Hodson managed to seem unhurried and reassuring in spite of the short-notice, and I was set up with the tests I needed. It was a notably smooth and effective performance by Widcombe Surgery, and the NHS, all done with great pleasantness, for which I am very grateful. Thank you Widcombe.
