Avoid This Hospital – Neglectful and Dangerous Care - Glaven Ward - Dr Sivasankaran

If I could give this hospital zero stars, I would. The level of negligence and disregard for patient well-being is shocking, especially for an NHS facility that is supposed to provide care and support.

A close family member is currently under their “care,” yet there is little to no actual treatment taking place. Instead of engaging him in therapies that could aid his recovery, they allow him to spend all day in his room with minimal interaction. He has repeatedly self-harmed while in the hospital, yet staff seem uninterested in addressing the underlying issues. Despite him having a clear plan, intention, and means to end his life, they are planning to discharge him simply because they need the bed space.

To make matters worse, they are refusing to put a proper care plan in place for when he leaves, essentially abandoning him at his most vulnerable. This is not just inadequate care; it is dangerous negligence. How can a hospital justify releasing someone who is actively self-harming and suicidal, without any meaningful support in place?

Hospitals like this are failing patients and their families, prioritising efficiency over human lives. Mental health care should be about support, treatment, and recovery - not about rushing people out the door regardless of the risks. This hospital needs serious reform before more lives are put at risk. If you or a loved one need mental health support, I strongly urge you to seek treatment elsewhere if at all possible.

Review of Hellesdon Hospital

Short review: Shite

My experience at Hellesdon Hospital was nothing short of appalling. The conditions were so bad that it pushed me to my breaking point, something no mental health facility should ever do. Instead of being a place for healing, it felt like a prison where basic dignity and care were completely disregarded.

They didn't feed me when I was told to isolate in my bedroom, staff failed to intervene when I was pinned up against the wall by my throat ext.

The environment was hostile and dehumanizing. It wasn’t just the lack of proper care; it was the sheer neglect and poor conditions that made every day there unbearable. To say it was a traumatic experience would be an understatement—I would do anything to avoid being sent back to a place like that.

Mental health services are supposed to support and uplift people in their hardest moments, not make them worse. Hellesdon failed me in every way possible, and I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone.

Was on a psychiatric ward there for one week after being on another ward in Kings Lynn for 3 weeks.

The Norwich ward was awful! Denied any psychological support and denied an advocate despite being eligible, staff would intentionally refuse to speak and interact with me, and the doctor laughed at me and said I'm being discharged because they need a free bed, not because of my own health. Once took 3 hours just to recieve prn meds too. Refused to go through my preferences, and they deleted my parents off their system for contacts who can request information about me.

I urge anyone here to plead for a transfer!!

Don’t expect them to give a damn how much you’re mentally struggling or that you’re finding it so hard not to put yourself 6 feet under. 😣💔

They are well aware I have multiple mental health diagnosis, including CPTSD and BPD- the most mentally painful disorder. They know I was in hospital in February for trying to kill myself, and still very much do not want to be alive.
They know I’ve been through hell this year - finding out my ex beat my precious cat to death, planned to kill my daughter, and has abused her repeatedly (including SA) when I wasn’t there.
They know every service I’ve had to deal with in the past 9 months has let me down, and I’m screaming for some kind of support so my daughter doesn’t have to grow up without a mother as well as no father.

Twice this year they’ve refused to give me any form of mental health help, which is diabolical. The crisis team tried to palm me off to a completely irrelevant service after not caring in the slightest about everything I was going through.
How they are allowed to be this negligent and refuse to help those who desperately need it through the NHS just bewilders me!
Absolutely appalling! Who the hell is running this joke of a service?!

The Nurses are very friendly. My review is based on the infrastructure. The ward I was in for section 2 patient's was way too small. Also food not pleasant all.

Receptionist at the weavers crisis team department has no empathy or compassion when old community patients ring.
Denying me access to my own records and not passing my diagnosis over to the mental health team they have passed me over too. So no paper trail of my diagnosis, yet I am on a monthly repeat prescription for said diagnosis 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They wonder why people have trust issues with people who claim they are "helping them" bloody useless. Send people with mental health over the edge!!!
