I attended the Fracture Clinic a few days ago with my elderly mother, 96 years. Although we had to wait quite along time I cannot speak more highly enough for the nursing care. My mother is immobile and she needed the bathroom. Despite the immense pressure and lack of adequate facilities, the nurses dealt with the situation beautifully with such respect. Their empathy actually brought tears to my eyes. I think they are amazing for the job they do. The doctors are amazing too. Thank you for your kindness and expertise.

Attended A&E with my 88 year old grandmother, who had taken a minor stroke. A&E was really busy and under pressure, but the staff were absolutely superb - such attention to detail, patient and caring. Just wanted to let the doctors, nurses and staff that they were much appreciated that day!

16 hours in A&E, 4 hours in a "numbered chair", moved to a "Corridor Bed" (which they say really quickly to make it not sound like what it actually is!)
I had a blockage due to opiod meds I take for trapped nerves in my back. Once on the "corridor" pumped full of laxatives, I asked where nearest toilet was, which was not far! I had to use a walking frame, after all that time in those god awful chairs in A&E my back was in bits, so was I! Sat in tears for all those hours, asked for something for my back pain, given 2 cocodamol, I asked for water- --hook me! The nurse in a&e looked at me like I'd murdered someone! I couldn't walk to get water myself, her attitude was a disgrace! No caring empathy, just cold disregard, she was vile. It wasn't a busy night. I was taken in by ambulance, I was sick but also have disabilities, just dumped in a chair near psych ward entry & forgotten about. Back to the "corridor" -:
Toilet was filthy, like a mens urinal in a Northern England working men's club in the 70s! No loo roll, no handwash, pointed out to nurse how filthy it was, I had to use one which was too far away, even with the frame, too far for me to get to. Was told after approx 4 hrs the toilet had been cleaned. It now had loo roll, still no handwash - still disgusting! The other loo too far for me.
My "Corridor bed" had a tiny screen the width of a pillow, no privacy, noisy, lights on directly above me, next to a nurses station, did ask for & get some ear plugs, but it was too noisy &I was next to a private room, TV on full, a bed, privacy, bit like "here's what you could have won" on Bullseye! A storage cupboard right next to me, nurses banging the doors, leaving the lights on, talking about their personal life, slagging off foreign nurses, who, were absolutely fantastic! Polite, attentive & thorough. My 1st meal in 48hrs was delivered. A slice of dry turkey, scrambled egg, Carrots & ......... GRAVY!! No words! My 4th time spending 12+ hrs in A&E at the Ulster, each time worse than the last! I did get a bigger screen to make a screen all around my bed area, but the footfall of staff & visitors staring through the slots, absolutely degrading! Nowhere to wash, or shower, change, never felt to dirty & exposed in my life! I'm nearly 54, that was a horrific experience!

I have recently been a patient of the Physiotherapy Department and attended sessions to receive consultation and advice about a sciatic pain problem, leading to a programme of exercises with the Physiotherapist Hannah Rosbotham which has been a great success and I no longer need to attend UH , having now learned exercises for self care at home.
The entire team, including reception staff, administrators etc. have performed in an excellent way to meet my needs.
It is often said "no pain, no gain" but I have suffered a lot of pain before attending UH, a little pain during exercises, but with the gain of knowing how to self manage my mobility and MOVE FORWARD in my life !!

I had to attend Maternity/Gynae department last Tuesday. My partner couldn't get a parking space near to where we had to go. He had to stay with his car outside the main hospital and drive round to see if he could get a,space but nothing.

Spent near a month on ward 3A with chest issues but all the Dr's wanted was for me to go home and visit the Respiratory hub as they weren't sure as to what was wrong even though I was on a nebuliser 3 times a day along with other meds and couldn't walk the length of myself without needing oxygen, all I can say if your on 3a/b and ur consultant is Dr Elder who you might see once get a 2nd opinion and year on and iam still awaiting my follow up but all they want is me to attend this hub with a physio and not bother Dr Elder as she's busy painting . As.for the Nursing staff they were 2nd to none and more attentive than the dr

Had the delivery of my son Lucas in the Home from Home ward and I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff. Went to the EOU several times and all the midwives were amazing and helpful. I felt heard, taken care of and like we mattered. The room was amazing with the birthing pool, all clean and stocked. So glad to have picked this hospital for the delivery and would 100% recommend it.

Absolutely disgusted with this hospital. My husband was a patient there for a time in June. On his first visit my daughter asked 3 times for a chair for her dad and after a 45 minute wait had to get one herself. On another admission ( he had at this stage been diagnosed with terminal cancer and aged 70) he had to wait 50 hours in A&E.. He was due to have a procedure done on a certain day but all 3 doctors who could do it were off on holidays. He then got another appointment for day procedure and when he arrived again there was no doctor to do it. He had to wait for a bed to be admitted again!!! but his oxygen was running out. I went up to the ward, explained the situation and asked for a porter to bring a chair down to take him up to the ward. Half an hour later he had to walk to the lift and then the long corridor before he got any oxygen. Unfortunately my husband died in August but we will never forget the unbelievably bad experience we had at the Ulster Hospital.
