It’s hard to make an evaluation of a place based on an hours visit, however I have just spent 10 days with mum at her end of life. The care given, not only to mum, but also to our family, was excellent. The staff were caring and helpful, and I caught some really tender moments from staff with mum when they didn’t realise I was there. Everyone, from the care team to reception, the cleaning and kitchen staff, were so kind and when mum passed, everything was arranged on our behalf so we didn’t have to worry. Thank you to Jane and her team.

After visiting my mum yesterday I would like to give a big shout out to the staff on the dementia unit especially Teresa who is such a caring and kind individual. I find it very difficult to visit mum as she in no longer the person she was but she is still ‘my mum’. If you are looking for a safe environment with caring staff then you should take a look at this care home.

My husband is in Derwent house dementia/ Alzheimer's ,we have issues from the start ,falling after 3days in home ongoing issues , hygiene,not the best , clothes going missing ,they are saying he walks about a lot trying to get out ,he hates it ,I asked to see his care plan but it was held by dep manager I could not look at it myself!no activities only when I visit,and take him into garden ,I have tried to get him to another home but they say he is wandering into ladies bedrooms ,the staff are not dementia trained ,ok if you you are sat in a chair not moving with a TV on 24/7 but to keep the residents occupied need more ,but I do not want want him to lapse into this ,he likes to chat but the care workers don't seem to bother ,i want toove him but they are putting issues in all the time .
