Went to a brilliant the Dementia talk yesterday evening at the Orchards Care home in St Albans .
Chris was amazing! Not only did she really know her stuff, she imparted it with a passion that really demonstrated how much she cares about the subject. The 2 hours went by so quickly, and we also had some good laughs to lighten the mood, especially when we put on the props that gave us the experience of what is was like to have dementia- it definitely encouraged empathy and understanding as well as being humouress.
Big thanks to the whole team for making us all comfortable, being so kind and friendly and offering food and drinks- an unexpected bonus!

My wife and I attended an evening seminar on Living with Dementia (my younger 68 year old brother having been diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimers 10 years ago and having just been admitted to a care home, my wife being concerned that I might succumb to the condition).
The seminar was well attended and the trainer was excellent.
She gave an overview of the condition, the different types of dementia, the current numbers involved and the massive future impact on the UK’s and the world’s population.
There was also audience participation so that we could understand what sensations dementia sufferers would experience.
Very glad we attended as it was an extremely informative session.
Would thoroughly recommend the home on the basis of the depth of understanding and obvious concern of the carers

My mums been in the orchard for almost a year and the difference in her now to this time last year is amazing. She’s had such wonderful care from the carers, nurses, activity team, the list goes on. She’s incredibly happy there and it’s always a pleasure to visit. Everyone always makes us so welcome, especially Donna on reception & Vicky. It’s a lovely happy place to visit mum. We couldn’t ask for anything more.

It's always a pleasure to visit The Orchard, the staff are really friendly and the activities team really support all the events and services taking place in the home. I lead worship there every month and they always support me, the residents and the service really well, taking part and gathering the congregation together. A wonderfully caring and kind place to be.

The orchard is a fantastic place. When i first walked in I thought I was in a 5 star hotel. It was phenomenal. I wanted to move in 😀 The staff are so knowledgeable. There was a fantastic activities team who were so much better than the team at the homes I have seen elsewhere. The layout of the home was so easy to navigate and each residents room was just so personalised. I'm thrilled with it and wish that I had found it sooner.

Generally unhappy with the Nursing Home. Some days okay. Nursing Care is adequate, Carers differ towards Residents, depending who is on duty, most okay, some very good and helpful..... Lack of training in Residents with Mental health issues, in my personal opinion inadequate and insensitive... General Practicians difficult to see. Food is good. My room is very comfortable with a patio door which goes out into a lovely garden. Room is drafty in the Winter, but delightful in Spring and Summer. Difficult to find out what services can be provided at the home.... Very delightful Nurse who I have just met Andrea, this Nurse has helped me considerably more than Nurses who I have known since last year... Which I would like to Thank,. I have a severe hand tremor, so unfortunately I have to end my writings. Thank you so much for reading my message.... It is appreciated. Regards Jean Messer

I am the hairdresser at the Orchard, I have been doing the hair of the lovely residents for many years now and the home is lovely, the carers are amazing and the activities team work extremely hard to keep all the residents engaged and happy!!

I have enjoyed my visits to the The Orchard Nursing Homes. Residents seem to be enjoying their days. Colleagues at the home doing everything that they can to ensure that the residents have meaningful and active lives. Working together to enrich lives.
