The ongoing failure by Takeda to supply Elvanse in the UK and elsewhere for many, many months has caused distress to those in the ADHD community who take it.

It has been described as a shortage, but that understates the case - to describe it as a shortage suggests the supply chain is under stress, but for many doses for long periods there has been nothing available - there has been a complete failure to supply.

This farcical situation has been made worse by the failure by Takeda to keep it's word when announcing due dates for resumption of supply and it's refusal to be held to account. The company claims that a major factor in their failure is recent increased demand for their products, but here in the UK the increase has been limited by the inability of the NHS to meet demand for diagnosis - the inelastic supply of suitably qualified personnel to diagnose ADHD and other inadequate resources have resulted in NHS waiting times in many parts of the UK rising to as much as 5 years, and in some cases more. This has served as a brake on the increase in the numbers of those who can accesses this prescription-only medication.

I suspect the real cause of the failure to supply rests with Takeda themselves, but their victim-blaming is being used to divert attention from their own short-comings. I expect in due course when they are obliged to account for their woe-full performance this figleaf will will be seen for what it is.
