A well located shopping centre in the centre of town offering variety of stores and coffee shops but quite a few premises are empty and locked shut. This gives an impression of underused and a place with slightly dull atmosphere. However, there’s a large car park and variety of other shopping facility in the area.

All of you nostalgia buffs out there (fasten your seatbelts please).
Do you remember when Eastleigh high street used to smell, apparently a little like the floury, creamy smells from the Lyons tea houses and Manor Bakeries ltd, culinary creations.
Mr Kipling's cakes were also made by the Rank Hovis McDougall subsidiary known as Manor Bakeries ltd. Which also produced products under the Lyons and Cadbury names. The Cadbury 🍰 cakes are produced under licence from Cadbury PLC the owners of the brand name. The Kipling's/ Lyon's/Manor Bakeries ltd factory/bakery was just up the road. And the combined aroma of hundreds & thousands of cakes and pastries. Being simultaneously baked in a multitude of ovens. Apparently used to give the area a slightly sweet floury, creamy aroma (to say the least). In 1981 at Christmas they baked around 30 million mince pies.
While Joseph Lyons was famous for his Tea houses and computing systems. Cadbury were famous for their chocolate. Sadly Manor Bakeries closed down in 2005 and gone is the sweet smell of success. That surrounded its operations.
Eastleigh town centre is where the Regal cinema used to be. (It used to have a cruel nickname.) But I remember seeing my first few films there. Such as James Bond, Live and let die & The man with the golden gun, Towering inferno and Jaws.
These early films helped to instill a love of films which has grown rapidly over the many years since last visiting the old Regal cinema. Another old multi media favourite of mine was the Jack Hobbs record shop a tiny record shop in the middle of the high street. Which not only sold picture disc 45 rpm singles (and albums) and reduced price records but often gave away point of sale cardboard posters from record and performance promotions. Needless to say what with my fairly unsuccessful piano lessons. This was a new avenue in music that I was eager to explore.
The new Swan centre is now the home to over 50 retail and leisure outlets including, Bonmarche, Boots, Card factory, Claire's, Clarke's, Clinton's, David Mellor, EE Phones, Ernest Jones, Game,
H & M, Hampshire county council library services, Halifax, Holland and Barrett,
JD sports, New Look, O2, Post office, Poundland, Robert Dyas, Ryman, Shoe Zone, Sports Direct, Tesco, The Entertainer, T K Maxx, Trespass,
W H Smith.
Another foodie delight of yesteryear was the old 'pick & mix' confectionery mixup trays of Woolworth's. Obviously they're not available from 'woolies' anymore. But I wonder if the Swan Centre may have any confectionery 'pick & mix',mix-up trays planned ? Or were they an old sweet gimmick which has lost its flavour?

JULY 2024.
The Swan centre has a number of well known shops, and Costa and Boswells cafes. Sadly there are a number of closed shops, not unlike many towns. BODY SHOP OPENING "SOON" Hopefully more to open in the future.
Outside of the centre there are some restaurants, Prezzo Nandos Frankie and McDonald's etc.
Tesco recently revamped, new layout not to everybody's choice. Additional security gates at checkout exits.
Not really large enough to spend all day in the shopping centre unless you include the ten pin bowling alley, or go to the multiscreen cinema. Variety of additional restaurants, pubs and cafes close by in the town centre. Plenty of parking on two levels at the centre or limited Street parking.

A decent sized shopping centre extremely clean open and airy feeling feels almost new shame that there's some empty shops and it could use some massage chairs like the ones in the Emery gate shopping centre in Chippenham. Just needs to be used to it's full potential.

Although it was raining, I had a fun experience with shops having a closing sales, easy to find amenities as they have an informative kiosk and really fabulous for the mirrors on the sides. I like to see myself walk 😂
