The EMA Patient Transport team visited Avery Southampton Manor today to talk to the staff and residents about the bespoke care home transport services we offer. What a beautiful care home and set in wonderful grounds. The staff here are brilliant, so caring and knowledgeable and the residents are very happy and interactive.

Visited my Mum for the first time since she moved in. I was so impressed. The staff have got to know her so quickly and obviously genuinely care for her.
There are so many activities if the residents want to join in. Mums been dancing, had a trip to the new forest and all sorts. Mum seems really happy

. Sitting on the balcony made it feel like we were in a cafe. The coffee was amazing.
It has a wonderful homely feel, but at the same time is as good as a hotel .
Mums room is as big as our lounge at home!
The receptionist took my grandchildren to see the bird they have there and were offered chocolate and all sorts.
So so impressed and relived she’s in such a lovely place. She deserves it.

Based on our experience with this home, we do not recommend. We encountered several issues, and over time, the family lost trust in the home, resorting to visiting almost daily.

We submitted a formal complaint to Avery, which was also forwarded to the Care Quality Commission. The complaint was investigated by Avery and resulted, for the most part, in the usual corporate line of ‘lessons learnt’ etc.

We did escalate one issue to the Ombudsman, primarily around what we believe to be the lack of dignity and respect following death. While the Ombudsman identified faults, it chose not to investigate as action by Avery had been taken to improve service. However, it did note that its ‘failures in these areas may be breaches of fundamental standards’ and that a ‘specific apology for faults the Ombudsman has identified’ had not been given by the home. We find it appalling that these issues even occurred in the first place and it has caused extreme upset to the family.

Since posting my review, I have also noted Avery staff members/general managers posting 5* reviews for this home. This is wholly un-ethical and in clear breach of Google guidelines. This has been reported to Trading Standards and the Competition Markets Authority.

This care home has a lovely atmosphere and it's a pleasure to come and visit Mum. On the whole, the staff are very welcoming. It's quite different from the other care homes that our other relatives have stayed in. Yes, there were a few teething troubles when Mum first moved in but these are to be expected when a relative leaves their home of many years and has to adapt to a new life and the staff adapt to a new resident. The client liaison staff have been particularly helpful, as have the managers and care staff. I can happily recommend this care home.

A really nice place with great food, activities and caring staff. There is a positive atmosphere which you can sense when arrive. Everyone makes you feel welcome and the residents are happy and engaged.

The home is beautiful, clean and welcoming, the team are kind and always ready to help. There is a nice atmosphere in the home and is evident on the high quality of care observed being delivered during my visit.

I was looking for a place for my grandparents to enjoy respite, I visited here for viewing and I was very impressed and all staff made feel very comfortable and welcome. The place is a luxury building and very beautiful setting and wonderful entertainment.
