Attended A&E this weekend. The staff never stop running around trying to sort patients out, it must be very stressful for them.
I was there 18 hours in total, not the best experience but I did have all the investigations I needed and was discharged with positive news.

The chairs in the Urgent Care Service are metal and extremely uncomfortable ( especially with a back injury). They did find me a trolley which was slightly more comfortable

Took my wife to A&E it was very busy, saw a Triage nurse within 30mins and a doctor after 2hrs. All the staff we came into contact with were polite, caring and very professional. The only problem is parking, i ended up having to park on the street half a mile from the Hospital but you can't have everything.

From start to finish this has been a very stressful and nightmare experience. My notes were incorrect upon my discussed treatment services. When I called to complain they decided to discharge me. After having PALS contact them, they got their act together and got the correct treatment plan done. Got no formal apology for how I had been treated.

First visit to PRE OP. Treated like cattle. No care or respect. Going for an ECG, nurse pulls my clothes down to an attempt to rush me. (I also suffer with another condition that affects my movement, they are aware of this). Then tries rushing me out half dressed into the corridor.

Second visit to PRE-OP (3 days before surgery). Having bloods taken and was forced to listen to the nurse moan about being short staffed. I asked questions about my meds before surgery only to be hit again with I cant be seen or have it confirmed about my meds to taken due to staff shortages and its my responsibility to find the paperwork. I'm 100% certain we were not given any paperwork on the last visit.

Day of surgery. I cannot express my gratitude to the surgical team on the day. They all came to see me and answered all my questions and were lovely. I couldn't believe I was in the same hospital. Thank you again to the team take took care of me before and during and in recovery, you are amazing.

Later that day on the ward. Woke up in my room and was being sick from the meds. Nirse left me unable to sit up more so I didnt choke on my vomit.
Waiting over 10 mins for assistance to go toilet. I had surgery in that area so waiting for long time to go was rather dangerous. Thankfully I was able to go home that evening and good job I did. I got the care I needed at home.

Called the hospital today, ive been really unwell with fevers, shakes, headaches all week and no realising I have at least 2 infections. Called the ward I went on after surgery and was fobbed off. They claim that as I had been discharged, I was no longer their problem. They said to go to my GP, its 2-3 weeks for an appointment.

Utterly disgusted by the unprofessional and lack of care the staff have. Don't moan to patients about your job. You chose to do it, don't like it, then leave.

I doubt I will hear back from this hospital but im so very tempted to pursue a law suit against them.

The hospital is dirty each time I've gone in and end up sick/ill afterwards.

Please go somewhere else for your care. Your life is not worth risking in this hospital.

I would hav to applaud the health care assistants, nurses, tea ladies etc as they strive on to do their best with everyone regardless. What I did observe like other patients was the communication between SCAN appointments and SURGEONS was HORRENDOUS obviously the SCAN departments need extra funding and staff so they can speed up results for SURGEONS !!!! Its a disaster and very worrying to observe as a patient awaiting on which procedure they require!
Yes I waited 7 hours to be seen too but in my time there alot of the patients could and should hav been treated by their own doctor with no need to go to A&E.
Nurses and support staff are all doing their roles etc I think the doctors and surgeons are struggling due to the immediate needs of Xray and Scan departments providing results QUICK enough to start treatment. Bloods results came through for me alot quicker than what I expected thankfully.

I've just come out after being hospitalised after throwing up blood. The staff were great & friendly & always there to help if needed...even then you have a button to call for help. made friends from beds next to me....The food was ok & toast/drinks either side of meals. I felt sorry for the nurse who was sat near the ward entrance all night watching over. (Think it was because we were on the urgent care ward). It felt more like a hotel....when the time came to leave..I didn't want to. & a big thanks to the nurse who walked with me to the entrance insisting on taking my three bags off me to carry...& then waited until we spotted my wifes car...a big thank you....that's what you call service. I hope I get ill again soon lol.

I must commend all the nurses and staff of this lovely hospital at the A & E Section.,The customer experience was awesome,The nurses and doctor are so reliable and diligent/professional.
I experience a lovely customer centric behaviour among the staffs.
Thank you all for making me feel so welcome also for your empathy and compassion.

Took my 85yr Old uncle, with symptoms of TIA/CVA and ended up waited 9 hrs to see a doctor, we were in department for a total of 12 hrs. …. I think the 4hr target has been abandoned. My 85yr old uncle and his wife my 82yr old aunt and myself were moved to a corridor to ‘wait’ for over 7 hrs. In my eyes as a nurse of 43 yrs a corridor is not a patient waiting area especially when the patient is on a trolly, it’s not private and definitely not confidential area, in fact there was no privacy with stretcher patients constantly coming past ( so on the ambulance patient entrance corridor). So e of these patients on a trolley in the ‘corridor waiting area’ were elderly, reduced mobility and the corridor was freezing with the ambulance door alway opening, eventually l went and got some blankets to cover these patients, l even ask if they were ok and if they needed anything to ask me. Some of the patient who came past to be admitted via ambulance were obviously mental heath needs patients, so they didn’t have any privacy , confidentiality or respect as everyone in the corridor could see and hear them. One mental heath patient had 3 mental health cares/ nurses with them, this patient was taken into a small room with the accompanying staff, but this staff all disappeared one by one and when all the staff had disappeared the patient ran out of the department when they came back the staff panicked of where is patient was and l heard a senior nurse saying ‘well that’s why they should be left alone ‘ ( patient had been brought in by police and mental health staff !!! What a shambles , l just sat and watch the whole circus happening around me with disgust. As the above were just a tip-bit of what l witnessed.

Most of the issues l witnessed where not the staff fault as management need to prioritise medical staffing levels on such a busy unit, and ask themselves if they would want their relative to have to experience waiting 9 hrs to see doctor and 12 hours in the unit…..? l felt like l was in a 3rd world country of healthcare delivery. The NHS is certainly not the envy of the world anymore…it’s a joke

Dad was sent to A and E as his pulse was irregular the staff were absolutely brilliant, monitoring him constantly and keeping us informed of progress he was then transferred to ward F8 again the staff were brilliant the ward was clean and he really was well looked after . The family can’t thank you enough.

Go up
