I called in at the surgery to make an appointment for my Asthma & Diabetic review. I was told by a lovely young man on reception that I needed bloods doing. He got me an appointment that morning as one was available. I got my bloods done by Lewis who was brilliant. He got my blood straight away which was brilliant as usually they find it very hard to get my bloods. Got another appointment in 2 weeks for my review. I always find the staff very helpful.

For someone who hardly ever needs to see a doctor, I’ve not been in years it’s impossible to even get a call from them never mind see one. Populars has always been my doctors and for years I’ve always struggled to get an appointment. But recently, it’s become worse. For the past 4 months I’ve been trying to get an appointment I finally got one which was for 8:30am this morning. As I’m sat in reception waiting to see my doctor/nurse I receive a text message at 8:37am to say my appointment had been cancelled and rescheduled for the following day. I’m already sat in the reception? I don’t drive, I had to walk to there and I had to take time off work for this appointment to be told “the nurse isn’t available” 7 minutes after my appointment should have been? I was literally sat in reception waiting to be seen! So I guess I’m back to square one, waiting for an appointment..

I am very grateful to the Doctors, ANP’s and all of the staff for the care I have received this year. I have been to the surgery more times this year than any other and always received excellent help and advice. With all due respect I hope to see less of everyone next year but remain very appreciative!

My experience with Swinton Medical Centre.

Two months ago, I visited the reception to inquire about travel vaccinations for my upcoming trip to Thailand. I was informed by the receptionist (woman )that it was too early to receive the vaccinations at that time and that I should return six weeks before departure. Following this advice, I returned last week, only to be told by the receptionist that it was now too late for the vaccinations, despite being previously informed otherwise. I was then directed to a private clinic across Manchester.
In order to attend the private clinic, I rearranged my work schedule, took time off, and traveled there by taxi. However, the doctor at the private clinic refused to administer the vaccinations, stating that it was my GP's responsibility to provide them, given my medical history, which my GP is fully aware of.

Following this, I contacted Swinton Medical Centre again to request an appointment with my GP. The receptionist was extremely rude and insisted that it was too late to do anything. I explained that there was still sufficient time before my departure and that I needed either vaccinations or, at the very least, a prescription for medication to manage potential complications from my condition while traveling. Alternatively, I requested a letter of approval from my GP to allow the private clinic to administer the necessary vaccinations.

Despite my reasonable requests, the receptionist refused to schedule either an in-person or telephone appointment, dismissing my concerns and suggesting I deal with the matter privately. This interaction took place at 8:07 am, yet I was told no appointments were available for the day. Additionally, I was informed that it could take weeks for my GP to contact a gastroenterologist for approval, which I find unacceptable given the urgency of the matter.

The repeated misinformation, refusal to provide timely assistance, and lack of empathy from the reception staff have caused me unnecessary stress, which exacerbates my medical condition. As someone who rarely contacts my GP except for serious matters, I feel I was treated unfairly.

The private clinic doctor confirmed that my GP could issue the necessary approval for vaccinations within five minutes, and I still have ample time to receive them before my trip. However, the staff at Swinton Medical Centre seem to create unnecessary barriers, making an already stressful situation worse.

I also wish to point out that this is not my first negative experience with this clinic. For this reason, I recorded my conversation with the receptionist as evidence of the unprofessional conduct.

I request that you investigate this matter thoroughly and provide an explanation for the poor treatment I have received. Additionally, I urge you to address the apparent lack of communication and training among the reception staff to prevent similar issues for other patients in the future.
