Depending on the ward the staff are at best at worst borderline abusive. I watched nurses standing around chatting about weekend plans whilst ignoring patient call buzzers. The total lack of compassion for the elderly left me speechless. And I was only visiting aa relative. God knows what happens when visitors are gone. If you are a patient then may the odds be ever in your favour

My farther has just been discharged from this awful hospital, since September he’s been admitted twice , the first admission he was very poorly with multi organ problems, unbelievable after two weeks he was discharged home apparently he passed the stairs test so was fit for discharge! He lives alone nobody had been to see or ask what aids dad had to help him , he spent his first night in the arm chair because he couldn’t get up the stairs ! At his own cost he had to equip his home with aids including a stair lift.
Four weeks at home ,he sustained a stroke and unfortunately he was admitted again to Pinderfields!!
The care he received was very hit and miss, the room my dad was situated in was a six bedded bay , unfortunately the patient weren’t able to communicate between themselves, the only stimulation in the ward was the clock !
He’s recently been discharged after many weeks.i will be making a formal complaint regarding his discharge as it was diabolical.
On many levels.
Unfortunately I couldn’t score the hospital a negative as this review wouldn’t be published

A&E
the nurses and receptionists were quite rude, i was made to feel stupid for asking how long the wait would be and what i was actually waiting so long for. i waited a total of 8 hours to see the doctor, i was told the wait was only gonna be 5 hours.
there were two concerning patients in the waiting room, the male stole someones wallet and was not removed from the premises, only given a warning. i then caught him using heroin in the public toilets and he was escorted out by security but managed to re-enter multiple times. the paraphernalia was left in the toilet and the police were not called (under the misuse of drugs act 1971 this should have happened as it was not only a risk to the man but all other patients). the woman he was there with was the one seeking medical attention as she appeared to have a broken wrist. she was also using heroin in the toilets and when i expressed my concern to reception to help this lady have some dignity left after everyone was staring at her (she was in a very dissociative state) they kicked her out with no medical attention.
as i was leaving i witnessed a nurse/ triage member remove a cannula in the waiting room. he gave the patient no comfort of privacy and also didn't wear gloves to preform this task.
i personally left with no functioning pain relief despite expressing the fact that i have been given one dose of codeine and paracetamol after triage, with no further medication being given as i expressed that it hadn't done anything to help ease my pain. i was told i would receive a call to get an ultrasound the same day but that didn't happen. i tried calling the a&e department as instructed by gynaecology reception but was left waiting on hold for over an hour with no answer.

Been very impressed with the care received from here. Definitely seems to be a cut above the 2 main hospitals in Leeds - although maybe it depends on the specific department.

Parking is hectic as it is such a big and busy hospital.

Nice, modern building.

The A&E triage is really good. Stayed on ward 40 short stay ward on a weekend which is covered by bank staff.My blood pressure was taken on my lower arm when they could have taken it with a bigger blood pressure band had they of been bothered changing it multiply times.The bed numbers was mixed up so one day I was offered no food or drink because they thought I was having surgery. This ward have students so the care varies they walk around asking you if you are going home .I was left with an IV all night because of skeleton staff on night. The staff through the week did not like I had been there 5 days so they was all talking my information around the desk in loud voices as it was a short stay ward and why is she still here and discussing my blood works. The doctors I saw was very good and treated me correctly and compassionately.

83 year old man sat in a chair in a corridor for 15 hours in A&E. Went to toilet on his own and fell over as no one to help. Eventually was sent to Dewsbury. Bottom line is not enough staff, not enough beds, quality of care drops as a result.

Blame politicians for not taxing wealthy people and corporations.

Just had a family member in this Hospital, she's quite elderly with multiple health issues. She was admitted to ward 27. I raised concerns about her being discharged to an empty house with no care provision in place. On 2 separate occasions by 2 different members of staff I was told 'don't worry we'll inform you the minute she leaves this ward'. She left the ward 6 days ago, still waiting for them to get in touch. She moved to ward 31. I'd informed 27 that she has mobility issues, I had to inform 31 as well. 4 days without getting out of bed is a long time for a 77yr old with mobility issues. I asked was she having physio in bed. No was the answer, her nurse admitted that as it was the w/end and Physio won't attend unless it's a discharge patient. The nurse also admitted that it would be Monday before she'd be able to get any mobility aids, walking stick, Zimmer frame, etc. No one apparently has access to the equipment. The Nurse couldn't commit to getting her out of bed, 'if I get chance I will'. Ironically there was a small army of staff on both wards on 5 consecutive days I visited. At best this suggests badly planned resources.

Unfortunately I have a lot of experience with hospitals around this area. Communication between departments seems woeful, communication between hospitals is virtually non existent. Staff can be brilliant or extremely poor, so good luck.

My mother who has terminal cancer was sent to A&E by the “emergency oncology unit” as her sodium was low we were put in the plaster room, the plaster room that’s used for putting pots on.
had to ask for the drip to be put up repeatedly which was the reason we were sent here,
not seen hardly anyone, apparently the blood results were available over 5 hours ago but only a doctor can tell us !
What a joke she was 6 hours post chemo when we arrived and she is immuno suppressed and they stick her in A&E absolutely shocking the lack of duty of care

Been here now 11 hours and counting- disgusting!!
It’s worse than prison no food provided and only one drink provided for her. Worked all her life paid all her national insurance and treated worse than an animal at the vets.
