Excellent care. I had surgery 3 weeks ago . Very pleased with results. Am very keen now to get other eye done asap. I was terrified due to severe claustrophobia caused by trauma. The whole team were very understanding and helped me deal with this during the procedure. Very caring. Would recommend to anyone just adding to this review as had other eye operated on on August 19. So impressed again with the care shown to a patient who because of past trauma is like a rabbit in the headlights. But as last time felt safe and reassured with the exemplary care shown by all members of the team. Thank you so much I can see now without glasses or contact lenses. Instead of looking through a constant blur since child hood.. I feel like all my birthdays have come at once. Would 100% recommend new medica

Everyone very professional and friendly. I had put off being referred for 2 years but need not have worried! Painless procedure and could see clearly immediately after surgery. I now realise how poor my eyesight was, cobwebs now visible I feel a cleaning frenzy sometime soon !!
Looking forward to having the other eye done!

Just had a cateract operation in my right eye as a result cloudiness forming due to anti rejection drugs from recent kidney transplant. Right from the pre op apointment through to the eye operation they were totally profesional, curtious and on time with minimal waiting around. Considering this was an NHS funded procedure I was very impressed. Parking free 20 metres away from the surgery was a refreshing perk as well. The operation itself only took 10 to 15 mins and absolutely painless. After which was taken into a post op room, given a cup of coffee and biscuit, explained aftercare instructions and told that a nurse would phone me the following morning to check how I was doing.
Straight after the operation my vision was very much better, and now the following it's great, could not be better.

The medical, administrative and resource-based rating for my review is known to the clinic. I hope that Newmedica (Gloucester and Head Office) will act on the information provided to save others with complex eye conditions from potential trauma. The stress and expense (met by the patient) of ongoing remedial treatment elsewhere to address poor outcomes could be prevented by Newmedica referring more complex patients to specialist clinics.

If, however, Newmedica (Gloucester) decides to to treat another complex eye rather than refer the patient elsewhere, I hope the consultant I saw will counsel patients about the specific risks to their vision that certain premium lenses present - especially when the patient is referred for NHS treatment with a standard NHS lens and expected this - but is instead advised (inappropriately) that they need a premium lens.

No patient should ever be told by a consultant (months after surgery) that he had ‘taken a risk’ with putting a particular type of premium lens in a patient’s eye - without ever having thought to advise the patient he was taking such risk(s) beforehand. Patients need to be fully informed of specific risks their eye(s) may face via a prescribed premium lens to prepare them for unexpected outcomes.. Not to do so creates significant stress and uncertainty for the patient in the event of post-op reduced visual acuity..

Patients also need factual and honest reporting in their records when previous vision is a long way from being restored by cataract surgery. An investigation and appropriate scans to try to identify the problem should be standard practice.The necessary scans were not available at the Newmedica Gloucester clinic - and the standard pre-op ones were operated by an unsupervised trainee in my case.

Thankfully my second cataract occurred outside the pandemic and I am able to receive treatment in an NHS eye hospital that is suitably and extensively resourced for my eye condition. I will not be trusting private eye clinics again after undeclared conflicts of interest in my referrals hindered my opportunities for appropriate eye care both pre-operatively and post-operatively.

What can i say wow wow wow my mother had to have one of her catarax cleaned as it had misted over and as it was a 8 to 12 months waiting on NHS and my mother was suffering so much with her walking as she couldnt see so we were told about newmedica and going private , so i said to my mum just lets go private and the service and the care she received was outstanding and i couldn't thank the consultant who did the procedure enough. Its the day after the cataract operation and I am in heaven!!My eyesight is suddenly fabulous and I can see colours and details i forgot existed before i had this procedure
