The hotel was just lovely and peaceful. Breakfast was delicious and a lot of choice. Dinner was very relaxed and the food was stunning in presentation and delectable. My room was well appointed, with a doggy welcome box of goodies for my pooch. A lovely warm bathroom. Being woken in the morning to the cacophony of bird song, priceless. All staff were polite and lovely. I just can't fault my stay. I am planning to come back in May for a few days weather permitting, to celebrate a big birthday. I felt rested and energised after my stay. The perfect place to explore beautiful Dartmoor.

Really excellent in all areas. The staff are clearly trained to a higher level than most places, even the room cleaners were smiling away, well done to everyone involved. The breakfast food was a high standard. We didn’t eat in the evening due to the high price, formal dining suitability for our 7 year old (we went to local pubs instead). So that’s the only area I’d tweak (having a more family friendly dining offering / area that’s priced similar to say the nearby also excellent Chagford Inn).

Absolutely fantastic hotel and super dog friendly. Really lovely touches such as sausage at breakfast for the dog and a welcome pack. Immaculate clean rooms and fabulous food. Can't fault in any way and will definitely be back. Beautiful setting by the river and lots of walks nearby.

We stayed at this hotel several times some years ago under a previous ownership and always enjoyed our stays. We thought we would visit again as we like the area, which is very beautiful. We stayed for 3 nights at the end of April this year. The hotel is in many ways recognisable from what I remember, but has more rooms in use for guests, so it is a larger business now (though still small by national standards) not quite as cosy as it once was.||We had an upstairs (I would say attic) room which was clean and comfortable. The water pressure in the shower room hand basin was low, but not really a major problem, the shower was fine, except for the last day when it was also a little on the low side. Probably because the hotel was fully booked, the weather hot, and everyone was using the facilities at the same time. The room only had one upholstered chair, which I feel when two people are staying, is not ideal (there was easily room for another).||The staff were excellent, always friendly and cheerful. ||The food was very good, with four choices of starter, main and desert available for dinner. These did vary slightly each day, apart from the desert which was always the same four choices (which was a bit disappointing). Dinner was very relaxed with plenty of time between courses, which was nice. The breakfast was also very good with a wide choice to suit most tastes.||There was just one thing that was a surprise, and that was that there was a service charge added to the bill for the meals, as we had booked three nights bed, breakfast and dinner, and had been given a price. It was a little unexpected. Most country house hotels we have used elsewhere had never done that. I would expect to pay a service charge if I had simply booked a meal there and not a package. However, as we were assured that the service charge was going to the staff, and they were excellent we paid it. However, I think this is something that should be made clearer in the booking process. I certainly did not notice anything mentioning this.||Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return.

Oh wow! Lovely old mill converted to a luxury hotel (and yes, the water wheel is still there, but not in use). Comfortable en suite bedrooms. VERY good quality meals (breakfast and evening). Staff were truly excellent, nothing we asked was too much bother for them and they were really friendly chatty and nice to us. Restaurant staff kept a close eye on what was going on and were very quickly at your table after you had finished each course.

Although we’d passed Millend several times during out visits to Devon and Dartmoor over the years, this was the first time we’d stayed and wished we’d done so sooner! ||We’d booked a Secret Escapes deal which included Dinner Bed and Breakfast in a Superior Double room and was a wonderful bargain for the price.||We were warmly welcomed on our arrival at 1pm and kindly allowed to check in early to our room (Lemon) at the top of the house. This is situated up a few flights of turning stairs which was fine for us but perhaps do check before booking that your required room type is easily accessible if that’s important to you – I had some questions and they were very quick and helpful in replying. Due the south facing aspect of the large window, the room that afternoon was quite warm given the lovely weather during our time of staying and although it cooled down in the evening it was nice to see there was an air conditioning unit in there if temperatures got too much! There were plenty of nice toiletries in the bathroom and a lovely slipper bath for a nice soak! The bed was large and vey comfy and we slept very well in the quiet room. There was a fridge with fresh milk plus robes and slippers and if I was being picky the only suggestions I would make for room improvement would be a bigger mirror for the dressing table (It’s little more than face size so difficult to do hair!) provide a more powerful hairdryer and have some lighting over the bathroom sink. ||Th grounds are very nice and well kept and is very dog friendly. There are some lovely walks nearby (including a particularly nice shorter one along the river into Chagford) which hotel staff can help you with and give advice on and they are very knowledgeable about the local area in general. They have some leaflets with walking routes plus there’s more on the hotel website. ||Onto food and wow we were certainly impressed. Some nice nibbles were served with the pre-dinner drinks in the lounge followed by a fabulous 3 course meal with choices at each course, some nice breads and butter plus an amuse bouche. The portion sizes were good and the food delicious and beautifully presented - it far exceeded our expectations! Service was excellent with friendly staff and we thought the wine selection (and drinks in general) very good and with very reasonable pricing. Breakfast was another treat with a perfectly cooked and promptly delivered full English for Mr W and Eggs Benedict for me, also perfectly cooked with excellent quality ingredients. ||On departure we were given a little gift bag for our journey home such a nice touch and this is one hotel which we would definitely return to!

Only reason it dropped a star was I thought it odd they added £14.45 service charge at dinner as dinner was included with our room and we just bought a £31 bottle of wine ( ended up £45 ) for some reason it seemed odd!
Lovely people and very dog friendly, but you can avoid if preferred. Rooms and gardens very good.
