I loved the older gentleman who worked for the hospital and helped be my guide for the cardiac department; the whole hospital felt welcoming with the lovely staff. I prefer this hospital to the Royal.

Excellent hospital. Staff have always supported me too even when I been admitted with having various health conditions over the years. As well as always helped my daughter out with her Asthma condition and provided me with excellent health care advice to manage this life long condition.

Had to go to the sleep clinic to pick up a device to wear overnight. If the device fails, there is a number to call in THE TUTORIAL AREA of how to equip it. This number doesn’t work. It’s almost a 2 hour round trip for me to get to the hospital and back. I called the hospital the following day to let them know I would not be returning the device due to it not working and me having no way of contacting anyone to help with troubleshooting (I also tried calling the sleep clinic themselves but there is no one to answer the phone at night….. at the sleep clinic….). The woman who I spoke to the following day said I had to take the device back and that the number is not for me to call. It literally is, before I could read the part of the tutorial about the number to her she put the phone down.

Edit: I ended up getting a replacement device and went ahead with the trial. A couple of months went by and I was given a follow up appointment. Due to a family issue I could not attend so I tried to cancel the appointment on the app. It wouldn’t let me. I tried calling numerous times but it turns out that it’s not just nights that no one answers the phone. I couldn’t get through to anybody once. I have called this number A LOT and only once had it been picked up (that once was the day after the device wasn’t working). As I couldn’t cancel my appointment over the phone I sent an email. Clearly no one reads the emails either as today I received a letter stating that they have discharged me for not attending the appointment. Useless.

Have to attend the blood clinic in the transplant clinic and occasionally the main blood clinic. The staff there are wonderful but recently they have to write names on each bottle instead of using patient labels. This appears to have slowed them down considerably and means waiting time is extremely long at times. I wonder if consideration has been given to having extra staff to counteract this extra time required, it really feels like a retrograde step to me as a patient. I am sure there must be a reason for the change but managers really do need to look at mitigating the impact this change has made to patients and the staff.

If anyone knows me, my view on hospitals isn't always favourable.
I've been to many hospitals at first I thought it was old and my treatment might reflect upon this.
However, far from it. I can only compare it to a 5* hotel lol. The staff were so nice. The aneathesist done everything he said he would. This resulted in me having almost no noticeable pain. The surgeon done the op well. The food was great. There was no snobbish attitudes. Thank you.

I visited the Vangaurd unit for a colonoscopy, a procedure I’m sure you will agree is certainly not a fun one, it was ensured that all patients had a seat and somewhere to rest before the procedure due to the limited seating, I was seen by nurse Joe for the consultation who was very sympathetic, blood pressure and consent form signed, we discussed anaesthetic and I said I would like to try with out as I wanted to get home.

a little later I was asked to get undressed had a cannula fitted just Incase. I was given modesty pants and a gown.

Procedure was fine and professional - Pam asked if she could do the procedure as she was still in training (not a problem) the nurse Mama was fantastic with the gas and air, voice and tone soothing and made it seem dream like, All in all the staff were fantastic, information great, parking easy…

I found out afterwards I was the last in and my partner was in the waiting room for 2 hours by herself, she said the nurses made a special effort to check in on here and offered her a drink.

Went today for my Hip operation after having a date change and then a time change, this can happen. However arrived as requested and was taken to a cubicle to change. The nurse came in and took blood and did a BP the anaesthetist came in a few minutes later. He spoke but I couldn't understand him very well, all I heard was your KNEE operation I informed that it was for a Hip operation he said, I was just testing and just as he left he said thank you I see you later for your Knee op, this didn't fill me with confidence. I waited for an hour and ten minutes . The Surgeon came in and started to tell me all the negatives of having the procedure which I knew anyway but then doubled down on everything, saying that with my diabetes and some other problems it doubles any problems that may occur. I then got the feeling he was trying to put me off. It worked and I left.
