Not Bad! But Not Good either!
We have eaten here on Remembrance Sunday for the last 3 years and there was always a good reason to come back, quality of food, value for money and service level have always been great. Not sure but I think they may of changed owners We were a party of 7 and only 6 main courses arrived, waited 10 minutes for the missing meal and then had to eat whilst everyone else had finished and watched me! We were not the only table to suffer the same issue, a young chap on an opposite table waited longer for an incorrectly ordered burger! His family had all finished and were almost on desert by the time his meal arrived. I appreciate mistakes are made and explained I would be happy with a complimentary dessert, I was told there would be no need as the missing meal had already been taken off the bill! I insisted they put it back on and that a free dessert would suffice! I was assured the meal had already been taken off so I thanked the gentleman and moved on! I did receive an extra slice of jam rolly poly with my sticky toffee pudding but I assumed this was an added goodwill gesture! To my disappointment when my father in law paid the bill there was no reduction of the meal or a complimentary dessert! I have given 3 stars because the food was nicely cooked apart from the beef which was overcooked, tough and served cold! Whatever happened to two nice slices of freshly sliced sirloin on your Sunday roast! Especially when you are paying almost £20 for it!

I recently went away for a 50th birthday weekend with friends and we had a group booking on the Saturday night to eat in The Kings Head.

Upon entry to this building you are faced with beautiful low beams and walk straight past an amazing open fireplace before approaching the bar.

We had pre arranged our meals and let the establishment know the size of our group so they should have been prepped and ready to go, or so you would think.

After purchasing drinks we were shown to our seats and asked if we were ready to eat (which we were) slowly but surely the starters arrived.

Most of them were okay, however a few of the dishes were low temperature and weren't very well presented or nice to eat.

Once we were finished the starters and were ready for the main courses the poor quality and service continued, starter plates and cutlery were left on tables and more than two dishes were missing items.

I tried to ask a server about the missing items and mentioned low quality of food but I was ignored. I managed to catch the server later and after complaining he just smirked and walked away.

Now the main courses were £17.50 upwards and we expected them to be a lot better than they were. Most dishes weren't that nice to eat, felt overpriced and weren't hot. This continued with the desserts and quite honestly was a huge disappointment.

I had the rodeo burger and that was missing the bacon, the cheese, the sauce and the coleslaw. The burger patty was "okay" but the bun was hard, the onion rings were cold and the salad and fries portion size were small.

It's worth noting that one of our group had prawns for their starter and had to disappear off to the toilet not long after a starting their main. This person did not finish their main course or enjoy the dessert, they also spent a lot of time on the toilet when we returned to the campsite.

If you are looking for somewhere to have a quick drink and get out of the rain this may be worth a visit, if the weather's nice they have a lovely outdoor seating area with loads of space. The inside is quite tight if there's a lot of people but it is what you'd expect from an old pub.

I would not recommend eating here at all, overpriced for the quality and the servers failed to mention missing items. The young staff seemed pleasant but overall I was displeased with the service provided and very disappointed with the food.

We had a lovely lunch here after a walk at Alton Water. We had a fresh baggette and skinny fries. Friendly service, a nice garden to sit in and good food. We'll come here again.

Called in last night as I was working/staying in the area. Ordered the £28.50 sirloin steak .
I changed the fried onion rings and breaded mushrooms to a side salad with a peppercorn sauce. Ordered it cooked medium but the steak was so thin and small it was impossible to cook it medium so it arrived well done. The side salad and cooked tomato were the best part of the meal with a large handful of frozen cooked chips added to the plate.
Charging £28.50 for a steak that has no sauce, frozen chips and some deep fried items does not constitute a home cooked meal nor of a standard worthy of the price tag.
There is no way a chef has cooked this meal. It's been cooked by a mum or dad who think they can cook.

Lovely pub, great garden out the back. Locals friendly, gets busy, but was an Easter Sunday, so to be expected. Friendly bar staff, great food. Perfect location for the nearby lake! Dog friendly

Double bed suit is nice for the money.
Nice continental breakfast in your room. If we are back this way we will definitely book the King's Head again. Only down side is we arrived on Tuesday after a 4 hour drive we arrived at 15.00 but couldn't book in until 17.00
One last thing £18.50 for a small frozen fish and chips and £18.50 for a small burger and not so nice fries. Way too expensive for the quality of food served. But that is my only moan. Would book again but would eat at the Gardeners arms down the road. The food was superb.

For such a wonderful and charming location is it is such a shame that this pub is so disappointing, the pints are warm and the food is of absolutely awful standard and often cold. Most of the staff are helpful and nice but the landlady is rude and very unhelpful. The kings head has so much potential but it is sad that it is owned by someone completely unprofessional and quite frankly an embarrassment to the pub. I will not be coming here again and I advise people looking for a charming local pub to look elsewhere. Perhaps I will consider returning when it is run by someone else.
