Sadly this was not the kind of final home we had envisaged for my, previously independent, mother-in-law.
Very little stimulation was on offer and residents were encouraged to sit rather than keep mobile.
The place was dingy and, on occasion, overpoweringly smelly.
Hygiene is definitely not high on the priority list at Homelea. TV tables and small side tables always sticky and mucky.
Filthy clothes put back in her wardrobe and then put back on her another day without being washed.
The downstairs wet-room was dirty and smelly. I'm pretty sure my mother-in-law was never washed and definitely never showered. Her hair was unclean and greasy.
I won't go into the state of her 'en-suite' toilet and basin - suffice to say that bodily excretions were not cleaned away - even when, mysteriously, some was smeared on the tap, (still there four days later!) The box for her dentures, to soak in over-night, was covered inside with some sort of sludge.
The food seemed adequate.
I must say that the staff were, on the whole, very sweet and caring (hence my two stars) - although communication, both ways, was at times difficult due to poor English. They were gentle and attentive when needed but otherwise did not interact much with the residents.
We have managed to move my mother-in-law to another home which we feel will fulfil all our hopes for her remaining years to be happy and comfortable.

I can not believe this place is allowed to stay open, in all my years of working in care I have never come across a place like it. Unfortunately my Nan went here , the staff - especially management are far from caring, so many incidents, lies, neglect and abuse took place in the short amount of time my poor nan was stuck here. Several falls, days when she was not even got out of bed, washed and changed. On occasions NO PPE was worn- including face masks! Some staff do not wear uniform or even a name badge. Brand new Clothes have been stolen. None of the staff apart from management speak any English whatsoever so communication is non existent. Management say what you want to hear over the phone but never call back, or sort any concerns. 2 professionals that visited my nan (a paramedic & audiologist) both raised concerns with the family and 1 raised an official safeguard which was investigated but the care home lied through their teeth giving the impression they know how to fiddle the system. They stated sensor beams were in place which they weren’t, I was told by a manager that a sensor Mat would be put in place for my nan which never happened. My nan had rapid weight loss in the few months she was here, as well as a big decline in her mobility which has since improved which shows she was not being fed properly or assisted to do any kind of exercise which was advised by the hospital prior to her moving here. All of these and more concerns were raised with management individually as and when they happened, family members then got a very abusive phone call from the manager Georgina saying how serious our accusations were, that she could go to prison and her staff could loose their jobs so we then felt unable to raise any sort of complaint or concern.I and my family are deeply upset that my nan who is a very straight forward caring lady could be treated with such little respect and dignity, we have lost a lot of sleep with worry for what was going on, unfortunately not being able to visit made it even harder as it all slowly came to light not being able to see what was going on inside. I personally feel sick to my stomach with worry for those poor residents and families still having to be ‘cared’ for by this disgusting company who of which are only interested in filling the rooms to make money, not giving any compassion or empathy in the slightest. I can honestly say that dogs in a rescue centre receive better care.

Please take the time to read my families experience with Homelea and decide for yourself if you would trust your loved one to be “cared” for at Homelea.

My Mother went to Homelea for temporary respite with no history of falling. She was there for a total of 24 days. After 5 days she suffered her first fall incurring a bleed to the brain, two black eyes and an injured shoulder. Nineteen days later she suffered her second fall. When she was admitted to hospital, they found that she was suffering from having pneumonia, another bleed to the brain and a broken hip.
Homelea registered her as being a permanent resident which meant once she was discharged from hospital, she had to be re-registered with the doctor she had had for 40 years.
Family photos and frames went “missing” and were not returned. Inanimate objects don’t go “missing”.

I can't express enough how upset I am with the way this care home dealt with my beautiful Nanna. The constant lies they'd feed us with regards to what they've done / not done for my Nanna. Everything was just unnecessarily difficult during such a heartbreaking time with what being her first time in a home after a fall and a hip operation. Two external experts (paramedic and private hearing test) both personally raised their concerns with us regarding my Nannas care, one of which made a formal complaint and raised a safeguarding issue (which is currently being investigated). When the care home received this complaint relating to my Nanna they automatically assumed it was us (her family) and rang us threatening the impact that our complaint will have on the managers position there (we didn't even make a formal complaint, or raise any concerns to anyone at this point... but if we had, we shouldn't be directly contacted aggressively by the care home because of doing so). My Sister and I also had to turn up to pick my Nanna off the floor as they said they were leaving her on the floor... the paramedics couldn't believe it took us to have to turn up to do that... my Nanna is only tiny it wasn't difficult at all. My Nanna has luckily moved now. There are just so many incidents I could reel off. Whatever you do, don't put your love ones in their care.

My mum was here ,she had many falls , no exercise or physio , lost weight, 2 professionals reported issues, staff couldn't speak English, she didnt gave any hearing for 3 months so well confused , they could be bothered ,I could list more but you get the idea, HOMELEA dont put your dog in there

It was a disgrace staff are all Indian with limited ability to communicate also I had 4 watches stolen at a value of about £600.00, I want the money back.

My mum Linda prince live at homelea and members of staffs was so lovely and managements of the home take time to listen to you about your loved ones , my mum was very happy and she love all the staffs as she tell me everytime she been look after very good , sadley my mum passed away Nov 2020 nothing to do with the covid_19 but though health reasons , just want to say a big thank you to all the staffs and Georgina the manager for everything you have done for me and my mum God bless ya xx
