The staff are notably friendly and attentive, helping to alleviate anxiety during difficult times. The medical team is both professional and compassionate, particularly in urgent care situations where patients feel well cared for.
The hospital maintains a clean and well-kept environment, which adds to overall comfort. However, longer wait times can be experienced, especially in the emergency department, and communication may occasionally lack clarity.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the dedication to patient care is clearly evident throughout the hospital. The commitment of the healthcare professionals at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital is commendable, making it a recommended option for those in need of medical care.

My brother, who has COPD, was admitted to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with breathing problems. He was understandably scared and agitated. Because there didn’t seem to be enough staff to support him properly, he ended up being sedated and put on a ventilator.

Tests showed that everything was normal apart from a flare-up of his COPD caused by an infection, which was treated with antibiotics. The plan was to take him off the ventilator a few days later.

However, this kept getting delayed—first by a day, then over the weekend, and eventually by another five days. We were even told he might not survive, which we believe was made worse by how weak he became while being left in this state.

Thankfully, when they finally removed the ventilator, he began breathing on his own with very little support. This felt like a huge step forward, and I went to visit him. He was asleep when I arrived but woke up about an hour later. He recognised me, waved, and tried to speak—which was difficult after being on a ventilator for so long.

What really worried me was how dry his mouth looked. I asked a nurse how he was getting food and water, and she looked uncomfortable and said, “Aren’t you aware of the situation?” I wasn’t—and that’s when I started to realise that they may have stopped giving him basic care without telling us.

From what I saw and heard, it felt like they had decided to end his care without properly informing us or giving him a say, even though he was clearly awake and responsive. No one has the right to make life-or-death decisions like that without involving the patient or family.

To me, this felt completely wrong, and I believe it could be classed as neglect or even worse. I will be making a formal complaint and looking into legal advice.

This whole experience has been very upsetting for our family, and I hope no one else has to go through something like this. The hospital needs to take a serious look at how they handle care, communication, and basic respect for patients and their families.

Had to go to A&E at GRH at 7am on Easter Monday with a dreadful non- clearing cough which was not improving after a few weeks. From start to finish the care and respect I received was exceptional. I was quickly triaged by Albert, had bloods taken by Andrew and was quickly referred to the out of hours GP by Sultana. Sadly, I did not get the doctor's name, but she was fantastic. Examined me thoroughly, but, most importantly, she listened. She put my mind at rest and I am now on the mend. Brilliant. Thank you everyone at GRH.

This is the worst places I have ever seen. My wife is pregnant and she has to work more that 6 hours in the waiting room at emmergency care/same day emmergency care even informed them she got pregnant. They have no any consideration about her situation. Very disapointed.

**Worst A&E I have even been**

This photo was taken at 0510hrs and people are waiting to be seen by Doctor from 1400hrs(including myself). The waiting hours in A&E department is next level. Not to forget the sleep deprivation, everyone including 80-85 years elderly and some very young kids waited over night.

The lack of communication is deeply concerning. Patients deserve to know estimated wait times and be treated with respect, not left to sit in uncertainty for hours. This kind of experience is unacceptable, and it definitely needs to be addressed for the well-being of those seeking medical care.

My 7 month old granddaughter was so poorly, they arranged a paediatric advisor, but then scrapped that saying that they wanted to see the baby at the hospital. Then they shoved her into A&E to wait for hours before being seen. (Which never happened)In the end my daughter in law left at 02.30. Even though she had been there since 9pm the night before, she was still looking at another 6 hour wait. Absolutely ridiculous. Used to be proud of our Gloucestershire royal hospital. But it's been an absolute shit show for a long time now.

Worst hospital experience ever but don't blame staff. 4 hr wait for priority ambulance. 3 hour wait outside in the ambulance along with 8 other ambulances before a bed found in triage. Moved to a trolley in an A&E side ward. Eventually found a bed on ward 4.30 am. My husband very unwell and the whole experience exhausted him. No wonder you can't get ambulance as all of them stuck outside hospital for hours waiting to get patients in. It's a sad state of affairs. Husband moved to cheltenham general next day. That's where I wanted him to be taken but ambulance aren't allowed to drop off there.

The care at GRH varies greatly depending on which service ward you are admitted to. In my experience the standard of care on the frailty ward is poor compared to other clinical areas such as A&E which is excellent. Both are acute assessment, front door services.
