Review of Derby Mickleover Hotel – Disappointing Stay Despite Great Staff and Facilities

I recently stayed at the Derby Mickleover Hotel and, unfortunately, my experience was far from ideal. While there were some positives, the overall stay left much to be desired.

Negatives:
• The first room I was given had a broken bed, a shower covered in limescale that constantly dripped, and a dirty bathroom that didn’t meet basic hygiene standards.
• The iron was broken and dirty, making it unusable.
• I had to complain twice before being moved to another room, which significantly disrupted my stay.
• Despite changing rooms, I still experienced a bad night’s sleep due to the poor condition of the facilities and the constant dripping from the shower.
• The elevator was broken, which was very inconvenient.
• Overall, the hotel felt generally unhygienic and poorly maintained.

Positives:
• The staff were great—friendly, helpful, and responsive, doing their best in a difficult situation.
• The pool and gym facilities were fantastic and well-kept, which was a stark contrast to the condition of the rooms.

Final Thoughts:

This hotel clearly has potential with excellent staff and good leisure facilities, but the basic room maintenance and cleanliness issues need urgent attention. I would be reluctant to stay again unless significant improvements are made.

Well situated for trips to Buxton ,matlock and surrounding area . Have experienced Derby Mickelover a few times and on our arrival at the hotel it started very shakily with a receptionist not being welcoming and being approached at the breakfast table saying we had to pay for our breakfast when in fact the price paid included breakfast .| However our three days at the hotel improved a lot especially with Zakira on the front desk .| Our room was on the third floor and had a 180 deg view of the surrounding countryside stretching for miles .| Breakfast was good although noticed that some cuts had been made ie fruit in bowls . | All in all though we enjoyed our three days there and would come again

Great location, with ample parking. Fantastic, happy, helpful staff who really hold this place together.|The rooms are large but extremely tired. Had 2 rooms both had issues and could do with a serious update. |Only one set of lifts so can be a long walk to the rooms. |Good facilities.|Again staff are brilliant cannot praise them enough, and they would be the only reason l would return if ever.|

Perfect family getaway. We stayed here on a Sunday evening family of four. Our evening meal was delicious and breakfast the same. The staff were helpful and very good with our two young children. We enjoyed the swimming pool and will certainly be returning. Thank you

Thank you to all the staff for a lovely weekend, everyone was really helpful. The family rooms were lovely and large and the spa was a great hit with the Grandchildren. The dinner menu was delicious and breakfast had plenty of choice. We all really enjoyed it and will be back .

The bedrooms are very tired and need refurbishing/ update, the dining room meals are nothing special, the breakfasts were a nightmare no tea/coffee or cups half breakfast items not available, juice contains empty.||I also had a query about the charge on our bill, I have emailed several times about a breakdown for it, also emailed Best Western who said go back to thr hotel, as to date never had a reaction or reply to my questions after 2 months. I give up now but won't ever go back.

We had a nice large room for the two of us and the dog. The dog wasn't allowed in the restaurant, but that didn't matter as we ate the same food in the bar both in the evening and at breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly - the dog even got breakfast.
Even though the hotel is on the side of a busy road, we couldn't hear the traffic

The hotel was nice and for the same price as a standard room at Premier Inn we got an Executive room. Which is bigger and has a seating area. We could have used the pool etc, but didn't have time.

The only issue we had was not the hotels fault, but we had a noisy neighbour who thought it was acceptable to play music until 12:30am, until they finally shut up! Why do people have to be so selfish? It was a bigger problem as we had to leave at 7:20, so had to be up early.

The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff we met were very nice and helpful.
