My daughter was put in the care of this hospital for 6 month in Hooper Ward, . All staff from receptionist to psychiatrist were exceptional. The support workers work long shifts and can have a lot to deal with on some days but were so friendly, supportive and caring to my daughter. The Psychiatrist (Dr Malik) was superb, he really takes on board what his team, patient and the parent has to say in regards to medication and treatment. Due to my daughters mental health she has been put in the care of several hospitals over the years but this one has been outstanding. I know people are always quick to write the negatives and can be impatient but I can honestly say knowing what the systems can be like out there and how all members involved with my daughters care and recovery were just all totally fantastic.

If Savanna Ward hadn’t helped me through my psychosis, I could have ended up dead or, worse, seriously injured someone. The management there is amazing and genuinely cares about both the patients and the staff. I’ve been to five different hospitals, and the Occupational Therapy (OT) team here is the best (love you, Kayla and Fiaza!). They organized so many groups to keep us occupied, and you could really tell that the head of OT has a passion for her work and wants to improve the lives of patients.

The nursing staff were also incredible; they didn’t hold grudges, even when I was really hard to handle at times. This ward truly deserves recognition. At the time, I wouldn’t have said this because I was so angry, but I’m honestly so grateful. Thanks to Savanna, I’m now studying A levels, I have a boyfriend, and I’m booking holidays. I’m sorry for what you had to put up with, but thank you for enabling me to live a life worth living! And in the nicest way possible I hope to never come back to the ward 🙂 if your being admitted here, don’t worry you are in capable hands 🫶🏻

If I could rate it at 0 I would. Today I had to contact the police and report the staff in savanna ward due to the fact that they stole items from my family members inventory when they were discharged.

I have recently been discharged from Cygnet Beckton, Upping Ward. I rate the care I received over the course of the 15-months I was there as very good. The staff were respectful, caring and supportive. The hospital held the safety of patients as of utter most importance and restrictions were enforced only when people were at risk. Right from the start of my admission I was given meaningful and attainable goals, with an ethos of praise and encouragement for each step forward, no matter how small. Psychology and O.T. interventions were well organised and helpful. As staff were regularly moved across different wards I have no doubt that the experience I had on Upping Ward was a reflection of the care given throughout the hospital.

Thank you to all the staff that were on upping ward in 2020-2022 especially Raina (I don’t know if I spelt that right I’m so sorry), Ned and mama Jo, thanks to these amazing individuals I am living independently, have a full time job and genuinely am loving life. I’m so incredibly grateful for their support, they didn’t just do their job. Anyone can do a support role and do it badly, these people take their positions and go above and beyond and I don’t think I would have made it through a lot of what happened without them. They deserve the world for believing in me when I couldn’t fight for myself. Thank you for seeing each patient holistically and treating everyone by symptom NOT diagnosis. If you are currently struggling with your mental health and you are reading this because you’ve been referred to cygnet Beckton just know you don’t have to ruin yourself with worry because the nursing staff will look after you and get you to a place where you realise you ARE strong enough to fight ANYTHING. Thank you, so much, I will always be grateful.

I was a patient on New Dawn Ward in 2017. I was being treated for ‘EUPD’, I’ve recently been diagnosed with autism and it was concluded that I never had EUPD, I was coping with undiagnosed autism. Scary that a ‘specialist’ personality disorder ward can’t recognise when a person doesn’t have the disorder they are supposedly trained in. Regardless I can count on 1 hand the kind staff I met, I still have nightmares from how I was treated. Practice was incredibly restrictive, I then requested my notes once discharged where I was kindly sent my notes, alongside another patients notes slotted in the middle of mine where I was then privy to the ward they were on, their address, why they were admitted amongst other details.

I was in cygnet for just under 2 years and 3 years on I am still suffering the consequences of being there. It is extremely restrictive in its practice which means by the time you are discharged you have lost all confidence and life skills. There is a definite hierarchy there where patients are made to feel they are not worthy of anyone's time. I once spent 5 minutes knocking on the office door and overheard a staff member say "If you just ignore them they go away eventually" (word for word) Patients do not even get the basic level of respect. This type of behaviour left me with a damaged self esteem and completley lacking in confidence. I am 100% certain that I would have been better off not going there in the first place. They claim that the ward staff have specialist knowledge in DBT which they don't. In fact, they don't even have the basic standards of healthcare professionals. If anyone has been offered a place here DO NOT GO. You will spend a lifetime trying to get back everything you lost from being there.
