Reviews of Comberton Surgery

It’s disheartening seeing only 3.3 stars on reviews for this surgery. The receptionists are always lovely, the doctors are amazing and the nurses are so lovely and kind. The medication dispensary team do so well (especially since most of the time they are under pressure). This surgery always follows things up and are super professional! Kudos to you all.

The person who phoned me this evening was so kind and polite and very caring. I really appreciate it very much, she is definitely a real credit to you all. Thank you so much.

The staff, despite appearing quite busy, are all very friendly, including both the GPs and the reception team.
They are professional and attentive. I felt genuinely cared for, receiving multiple follow-up calls. They even went the extra mile to ensure accuracy by proactively contacting me about a slightly delayed test result.

A small surgery that operates out-of-hour.
Reception was polite and offered to give directions as I would visit the surgery for the first time. There were no signs indicating that the house is a surgery, but looking for a large parking lot helped.

I recently moved to the area and have had such positive experiences here. Staff are polite and helpful. I have a needle phobia and went in for a blood test today. Karen and Jo calmed me down and made me feel more comfortable. They couldn’t have been any nicer and were so reassuring. They allowed me to take my time and sat with me until I was ready to get up again.
This makes a massive difference for someone like myself with a phobia.
Based on my experiences so far, I’d highly recommend this surgery.

Another fast call back when my kid was sick. Really prompt and helpful team.

I have had an incredibly difficult year. Dr Gathern has been such an excellent support. He has maintained appropriate contact and ensured I received the appropriate referrals.
So many services are over stretched yet Dr Gathern ensures he follows up and has been such a great support to myself and my family.
I work in Social care and speak to many GPs so can say with confidence Dr Gathern is one of the rare gems. Thank you.

Concerning Lack of Professionalism and Safeguarding
I wish I could give Comberton Surgery minus five stars rather than one. I am writing this review to express my profound disappointment with one particular doctor’s competence (or lack of it) at this GP surgery. It is my opinion that the doctor concerned failed to meet the expected standards and has handled sensitive information in a highly concerning manner. Consequently, I have serious doubts about their professionalism and adherence to legal obligations regarding safeguarding.
I was shocked to discover that the medical records of my child contained inaccurate and damaging (and indeed false) pieces of information, which were logged as facts without appropriate qualifiers such as 'claimed', 'alleged', or 'allegedly' to signify the absence of conclusive evidence. I BELIEVE THAT ONE PIECE OF MISINFORMATION IF TRUE, WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN ME BEING PROSECUTED, CONVICTED AND SERVING A LENGTHY PRISON SENTENCE BY NOW. This seemingly reckless action, resulted in blatant misrepresentation of unverified allegations without my involvement in any face-to-face or telephone consultation with the doctor is deeply troubling. The unverified allegations logged as fact haunt me as I think about them constantly, even in my sleep.
It is my belief that, in this instance, that the GP in question may have relied on memorisation and cramming to obtain their medical degree rather than demonstrating natural intelligence, as evidenced by the lack of common sense exhibited. However, I acknowledge the possibility that my assessment could be incorrect.
The failure to indicate the unverified nature of the information has not only caused confusion and distress but has also led to negative consequences for my child and our family. Additionally, the doctor's apparent disregard for their legal duty to immediately inform the appropriate authorities of such serious and unsubstantiated claims as part of safeguarding procedures is very, very alarming. Had they done so, I could have taken immediate action to protect my child as the authorities would have informed me of the very serious and damaging allegations.
It is essential for healthcare professionals to handle sensitive information with utmost care, accuracy, and diligence, especially when it involves potentially harmful allegations. The lack of transparency and professionalism displayed by the doctor in this instance is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about patient care and ethical standards.
Doctors should be reminded that medical records serve as legal documents that can be utilised in any UK court of law. Additionally, under the Subject Access Request (GDPR), patients have the right to request copies of their own records or those of their minor children. It is important to note that doctors' full names, dates, and even times of when entries are made to medical records, are not redacted from the copies provided to the patient or any UK court of law.
I urge the GP surgery to review their protocols for documenting and verifying information, as well as their adherence to legal obligations regarding safeguarding procedures. Patients entrust their health and well-being to healthcare providers, and it is crucial that this trust is upheld through responsible and ethical practices. As a result of this costly mistake, my confidence and respect for the medical profession have been severely undermined.
I hope that by sharing my experience, the GP practice will take necessary steps to address these issues and ensure that patient information is handled with the utmost respect and integrity.
