I always found Dr Scott to be very good and I am sorry that he’s now retired
Dr Watkins is an excellent replacement
Although you cannot always have an appointment with your Doctor of choice, you are always able to have a telephone appointment or be seen by one of the Doctor’s

Both of my parents were registered at this surgery and I have found them to be very helpful as well as efficient. Blood tests and results took a fraction of the time they would have taken in the South. Referrals were always followed up on promptly as well. I honestly couldn't fault this service if I wanted to (I just wish I could describe my own surgery so glowingly ;-)).

Moved to Crocketford in 2020 and to date this medical practice has surpassed, our previous surgery in Lancashire. We hear a lot of moaning about health care here. But I always maintain the health care here has been first class. If anyone wants to try the health care down south , it’s years behind the service we get from castle Douglas medical group. Exceptional support, compassion and care from Pauline Brown, Dr Cathy Van Zanten, Dr Gillian White and district nurse Gillian White during my mother’s last few months of illness. Mum was treated with dignity and respect throughout and these professionals made her feel safe. They also supported our family at this difficult time. Too often we do not recognise or voice the good practice that goes on in our nhs.

Between visits & phone calls my father requested help from this surgery and in particular Dr Scott on no less than 25 occasions over a two year period, in severe pain he was fobbed off time and again and his continuous requests for scans and in depth exploratory tests dismissed, finally he lost the use of his legs and when Dr Scott was called to the house my father was told to wait until he could see a stroke doctor at DGRI and that the huge lump on his back was nothing more than a rib, on seeing the stroke specialist he immediately (within 10 mins of examining my father) realised this was not a stroke and sent my father for an emergency scan where a huge spinal tumour, lung cancer & lesions on the brain were discovered, my father passed away 6 months later. After reading my fathers notes the level of arrogance I found was unbelievable, their response to my letter of complaint was weak and contradictory and took them 4 months to reply and only after being contacted twice by the Scottish Public Service Ombudsman did they bother to make it any kind of priority. In a world where 1 in 2 people contract cancer, tests to rule out cancer should be first on their list not last!
