I had a below knee amputation in early 2023 with a Type 2 diabetes complication. Since then I've being a monthly user of the surgery and I cannot fault the service I've received.

Staff from the reception team thru nurses to my GP are overall excellent. Yes they may take a while to answer the phone during service, where don't you find those kind of delays. As for waiting times having lived in London the short period of delay here would be miraculous in London.

Overall an excellent service.

This is quite possibly one of the BEST GP surgeries in the country. The staff - both medical and admin - are all lovely and considerate. They are all willing to go the extra mile in order to offer accommodations to my disabled son and look after him and the rest of our family with care and consideration. Keep up the good work Team Bridges - and know that many of your patients appreciate you all.

I switched to this surgery at the start of the year - I honestly wish I hadn't. I had a routine appointment with a male GP who spoke to me in the most rude, condescending way (he also sighed when he called me in from the waiting room!) I complained and asked to speak to the practice manager about the GP's lack of concern and conduct; I'm still waiting for them to contact me over 3 and a half months later!!! I rang a few times and was told by the receptionists that the practice manager was on leave, on lunch, had left for the day and so on. Absolutely no accountability and the receptionists just fob you off and have no idea what they're doing. If you're reading this and thinking of joining this surgery then please don't! It'll save your precious time. A real disappointment to the Gateshead area.

I have recently changed to a new practice after being with Bridges (often unhappily) for about 9 years. Waiting times are the main issue. I found that the waiting times for routine appointments rarely seem to dip below 2- 4 weeks, and sometimes rise to 6 weeks or more. You can always 'ring on the day' for appointments but if you want pre-scheduled appointments then the wait times seem high.

Some of the GPs there are pleasant and approachable and sympathetic and some are robotic, hard, and sadly clearly stressed. You can of course refuse to see the GPs with the poor bedside manner and go for the nice ones, but that then pushes your waiting time ever higher.

I also had a bad experience trying to claim on my holiday insurance when I became ill - the doctor in question at this practice and the admin staff (as did the insurance company to be fair) made things tricky in not providing me with info I needed when I tried to claim. This led to a lot of stress and back and forth. This was the last straw, but the main reason I left were the waiting times.

I have also noticed that the surgery seems to be responding to the more recent reviews here and some of their responses are interesting... to say the least.

Edit - I see the practice has now replied - wish they were as quick to offer pre-scheduled appointments as they are to reply on here! ? Ultimately, for me I don't think they have the balance right between pre-booked and 'ring on the day' (which employers often don't like) so I will try elsewhere in Gateshead. Hopefully this also frees up capacity at Bridges for another patient to use if Bridges are so stretched.

Also by 'routine' I mean 'pre-booked' or pre-scheduled - the problem with ringing on the day is that it means you may have an appointment at very short notice which employers understandably don't really like.

Further edit: There is no point doxxing myself on here or contacting the surgery as I have now left the practice! ? I fully sympathise with the pressure GPs are under but I've given Bridges plenty of time and plenty of chances so it's now right for me to try another practice in Gateshead.

I just got off an appointment with Dr. Loren Blissett, and hands down she is the kindest doctor I have ever spoken to. Great experience with Miss L Wade who took my blood sample. Friendly and courteous staff.

I'm really surprised by the reviews for this practice. I visited Dr. Lewis at the practice and the experience was very pleasant. Doctor was extremely professional and compassionate. Reception area was clean and tidy. As someone who really hates a trip to the gp, I have to say Bridges Medical Practice made it very comfortable and easy for me. Would recommend this practice to anyone! Thanks again.
