The first two years that mum was there I was quite happy with her care. However, the last year of my mum's life at Barton Court was very sad indeed. As her dementia progressed, I felt that she became an annoyance (as she became more demanding) to some of the staff at the care home which was so saddening. She had many witnessed and unwitnessed falls, lost a lot of weight, became anxious and depressed and I was constantly worried about her well-being. I realise that much of her unhappiness was linked to the wicked illness of dementia but some of the staff seemed so unhappy, stressed, tired and overworked, working such long shifts. At weekends there seemed to be less staff which was worrying. My experience of mum's care at Barton Court has been very mixed I am sad to say. Now she is in a nursing home and receiving a much higher level of care which is more appropriate for her advanced dementia needs.

"Do not care home" would be more appropriate. On one of our last visits, my Gran was in her room with 3 uneaten main meals, an empty water jug, and the heating turned on full blast, despite staff having told us last time they would turn it down. There is no attempt to encourage residents to eat, the dinner is just left in the room and apparently not even taken away when the next meal arrives.

My Gran was taken to hospital with dehydration just a few months after living here. The "carers" made every excuse under the sun, but WHY wasn't a doctor called for earlier, and WHY was the family not informed? Gran passed away in hospital from organ failure. The irreversible damage could have been prevented if the staff had any humanity or even common sense. We may not have been able to visit more than once a week, but we were just one phone call away... and yet they told us nothing.

My last memory of my Gran is her sitting like a ghost in that care home (in a room so hot it was even sending me to sleep) barely looking at us, clearly distressed and a shadow of her former self. My family paid this place thousands of pounds for her care, but it's the worst decision we ever made. Please do not trust these people to look after your loved one.

My Grandad has been at Barton Court for 4 years now, he is so settled and happy, the staff are amazing. The new extension is very nice and my grandad loves this new bedroom with en-suite.
