Interview feedback: Richard Stevenson

A few weeks ago I applied for a graduate recruitment position at Barrington James. They accepted my application and invited me for a teams interview. During my interview I shared with Richard Stevenson that I had packed up my bags in 3 suitcases, moved all the way from South Africa (alone!), and came over to the UK and have made a success of myself. I have made an impact through teaching, outreach work and recruitment all in under a year of being in the UK! I even mentioned multiple examples of how I have bounced back during my time as a recruiter in a previous role and how I implemented new processes to make the recruitment process run more efficiently. However, today I got feedback from my interview. I was told 'Richard did not get a sense of resilience from you'. I understand that Barrington James do not owe me anything but some useful feedback/criticism would've come across a lot more professional and would've been welcomed so that I can improve for future interviews. But to be told that Richard did not sense resilience was extremely harsh after I had shared my experiences with him. Furthermore, he said that he thinks I do not understand the recruitment process enough. But this is a graduate role, with tons of training provided? I am not a graduate and I have an understanding of the recruitment process. I actually would have been over qualified for the role. So what exactly is Richard looking for? A graduate with tens years experience and a life sciences degree? Good luck.

Barrington James in no way owed me a job, but the least they could do is provide feedback that is not generalized and unprofessional. I am a resilient, strong professional. No need to rip anyone apart after sharing personal experiences with you during an interview. It was very disheartening.

Deeply disappointed. They ghosted me after calling me a “Top candidate” for a job. I understand that they may have been a better fit for the role, but why ghost people and turn away calls? We can all take a no for an answer.

4-5 times in contact with them over several years when they called me. Only bad experiences, really unprofessional and aggressive « selling », no values in the company. They abuse your time, try to steal info from you and try to get CVs in database. It’s just all pretending. You might be seeking a job, but stay away from this company

Awful, they don't bother, no wonder why they have low reviews. Izzy Knight especially, do not respond to emails, do not respond to messages. What is the point of a company like this? Are they just trying to farm cvs?

Do no bother with them, trust me 100% the are just another recruitment agency that do not care about candidates.

AVOID. The staff are self entitled and often very cocky. They are more an information collection agency after your CV that they then sell on. I've been ghosted by them every time I have asked for more information about a role! (AKA there is no role and thus, no information) Most of the reviews are from staff, who have been requested to leave a review for the Google Logarithm

They make fake job offers, and then you will get ghosted when you ask for feedback or about the status of the job position. Francesca Hallworth was the person I spoke to.

I started working at Barrington James 1 year ago, I initially joined the Contracts Academy Team to develop my recruitment skills, particularly within Business Development.
I previously worked as an internal recruiter elsewhere and was dubious about Recruitment Agencies, however, Barrington James has changed my view entirely. Since starting, I have seen my sales skills go from strength to strength and I am still continuing to develop these skills.
I now work within a team of skilled recruiters and am currently above my yearly target. I know that I can put this down to the training I have received, the morning energisers and the support of everyone at Barrington James - including C-Level employees.

Not only is Barrington James a great place to work regarding career development but it also has incredible incentives which I am always proud to tell others about!

By no means is it an easy job, however if you are ambitious, driven and enjoy being part of a great office culture then I would recommend Barrington James 100%.
