To anyone considering Spire Hospital, I would highly recommend it. In September 2024, I had my first consultation with Dr. Glen Rae regarding knee instability and pain following an injury at a fitness class. He arranged an MRI scan, which revealed an ACL tear that required surgery. I then booked a consultation with Mr. Shaun O’Brien, the surgeon, who immediately put me at ease, and we scheduled the surgery.

Although I was nervous and anxious on the day of the surgery, the friendly staff and nurses made me feel comfortable in a lovely private room that was more like a hotel… with lovely facilities.

Mr. O’Brien personally checked on me before and after the procedure, keeping me informed every step of the way. Since then, I’ve had excellent follow-up care, maintaining the same high standard throughout.

I had a gastric sleeve op done by the wonderful Dr William Carr, I have to say he was superb. My surgery was February 2023 and I weighed a whopping 25 stone. I knew something had to be done, as I felt unhealthy and unconfident in my overall self. Dr Carr was so supportive in his techniques, so we’re all the staff really. Since February 2023 I am a healthy 9 stone 11 loosing 15 stone in 1 & half. I couldn’t have think of best way to spend £13,000. It was worth it in my eyes. I now wear nice fitted clothes instead of baggy un-appealing clothes like I wore at the height of me being 25 stone.
Advice to anyone thinking of getting a gastric sleeve, it is painful for the first month - so painful but it gets better and it’s worth it from the outcome, times when the pain was unbelievable I was prescribed pain morphine, and at times that didn’t even cut the pain, but I thought to myself this is going to work out for the best and it did.
Overall I’d defiantly recommend Washington hospital/spire.

I had surgery with Mr Balupuri on 7th September 2022. Spire itself was 3/5. The admin side of things was a bit clunky and the nurses didn't feel very attentive, which was frustrating given the costs involved (£14k).

But that aside, the quality of care I received from my surgeon before, during and after surgery far outweighed all of that. He's also the reason I'm returning to Spire again for another surgery in the new year.

My partner and I spoke to him regularly, he explained everything in great detail and he is one of the nicest people I've ever met. He's always smiling, he's caring and he's what we all want in a doctor. My surgical scars are non-existent, my recovery was pretty rapid and when I expressed anxiety or frustration at follow ups - he'd calm me down and take the time to talk me through my concerns. 2 years later and I'm happier than I've ever been. I'm in great health and I'm living my best life.

In short, he's a fantastic surgeon and I can't recommend him enough. 🙂

Changed my appointment twice without notice or contacting me. Once to the following day at a totally different time. Nothing but confirmation texts reminding me of the appointement time not matching what I had made a note of. Seems there was no regard for availability of the patient just themselves. No communication whatsoever and complete lack of consideration for their patients time. They didn't change the appointment until a day before so left me falling short of being able to get an appointment elsewhere. Until after christmas as I work away for half of the month and will be working over Christmas. Unacceptable behaviour, patients are not available at the drop of the hat. Will be avoiding this clinic if that is standard of planning appointments.

All i can was I was treated with great attention by my surgeon (but ended being sent as an emergency to another hospital). 7 times I went through the pre op questions, 5 times on the op day. I was bunged into a tiny room which had heating on - hottest day of the year. Apparantly they could not turn it off. Admitted at 0700 and not seen until 1500 by staff for surgery, by which time I was totally dehydrated and bp was too high to be operated on. Having a pain med allergy and a BP med allergy the theatre staff were already talking about not operating as they put me on the table and laid me out like I was in a morgue (feet and legs had to be stretched out for the abdo surgery) - extremely painful.

First interaction with nursing staff was over the phone and I was spoken to like a child or dementia patient - that should have been the warning sign straight away.

Shocking so called hospital. Saw a consultant, couldn't help me at all, referred me to another hospital, they never received a referral from him. Having to chase every thing up myself, receiving no call backs when promised, being passed from pillar to post. Being giving mobile numbers to speak to Tom, Dick and Harry. Horrendous service and noone knows what they're doing.

Dupuytren's Contracture surgery 4.09.24.
Consultant: Mr Jagannath Chakravarthy.
Just over two months since surgery. Completely flat hand on a solid surface. Full fist clench. Normal movement to hand. Scar fading. Splint use reducing.
I can't thank Mr Chakravarthy enough & Michael (Physiotherapist), the nurses who wound checked and removed the stitches.
My hand is 'normal' again.
Thank you so much.
Exceptional hospital, exceptional staff, Mr Chakravarthy is a miracle man.
