My family have been under Elmwood medical centre for nearly forty years, was once a brilliant practice. Now a days your told to ring back the next day for non exciting appointments. The older rececpist is rude and not a bit of compassion. Luckily most of my family are well and very rarely need a doctor. It's only now an appointment is needed that I realise how badly the practice has gone down hill.

Extremely rude and upsetting. Will not help you with any medical problems and are extremely accusatory of patients. Please save yourself the upset and avoid this centre like the plague.

Useless and cocky non empathetic reception staff. Added to (mostly - not all) quick dismissive Dr's. If you care about your health or mental well being or need to see someone.. Avoid.

REVIEW 1 2024 on behalf of my dad!
My dad had red flag symptoms for 10 months, he was just given antibiotics over and over and not addressing the issue. i demanded an appointment face to face and the DR even after seeing him with symptoms of... purple coloured skin, cold, white hands, discoloration of skin, weak, shaking/shivering.. (we now know are VITAL signs of sepsis!!) she asked us to book in at reception for a blood test for cancer in the blood... this needs IMMEDIATE treatment not a blood test in 2 weeks time, is this surgery for real?! After going to A&E Turns out he had sepsis AND cancer. How can the dr at Elmwood medical center miss these vital signs. he is vital age for this type of cancer, these things should not have been missed after urine samples showed red flag symptoms further investigation should have happened immediately not more antibiotics!!!!!!! all our family have moved away from this surgery

REVIEW 2 ...2022/23
My 7 year old daughter passed out one day and the doctor at this surgery couldn't have been any less interested. didn't invite her in for further examination. On the phone he suggested blood tests, though he didn't have a clue how to book children's urgent blood tests and asked me to contact stepping hill, who stepping hill kept insisting urgent blood tests had to be referred by the doctor. I was basically his secretary for the week making numerous enquiries at stepping hill on how to book these blood tests. I'd pass the numbers, references etc to the Dr who didn't bother doing anything with them. Bearing in mind he still hadn't seen my daughter and all the while I was concerned of her blacking out on me again, though he did make a comment that she's at school now so she can't be that bad.

I was made to feel like I was the biggest inconvenience for troubling him and spoke to me like I was in the wrong for having concerns about my daughter. Safe to say, I've moved surgery! Good luck to the rest of you still registered at this practice.

I have been a patient here all my life but this year has really just taken the biscuit.

Awful. As nice as the reception staff are the whole system is broken.

After waiting a few weeks for a review for my blood test (being labelled as urgent) the GP centre decided to cancel my appointment last minute, didn’t ring me to tell me, instead they sent me a text that I received hours and hours later.

They then offered a next day appointment, asked me if the number I was ringing on was best I said yes, little did I know that they wouldn’t even try to contact my other number on their system. They blamed me stating that i specifically requested to be rung on my home number only which is a blatant lie.

After missing 1 phone call on my home phone (which was very late anyway) I decided to ring back to see what’s happening. After waiting 20 minutes of being caller number 1 on queue they picked up and said I missed the phone call and blamed it on me in a very rude way. Why would you not ring my mobile? I work in the NHS as an audiologist and we try every number on the patients file (home and mobile).

They then offered me another appointment weeks and weeks away for a TELEPHONE CONSULTATION. I decided to go into the practice and request a face to face appointment… managed to get one within 13 days. Not ideal but better than what the rude receptionist over the phone offered me.

If it’s quicker to go face to face why do you never give us that option over the phone? Why default to telephone appointments in which they’re constantly late for and will cancel on you last minute without even calling.

Honestly I’m so fed up with elmwood that I’ve decided to register as a patient elsewhere.

9 times out of 10 the staff here are great! They've been extremely helpful the past few months and I've managed to get my referral very quickly
However, the telephone appointment I had today was appalling. Dismissed immediately and made to feel like an idiot! I will be avoiding this particular doctor in future. Very unprofessional.

I felt I should share a review of my recent experience with the practice. I needed a summary of care for a private referral. It was proving difficult to obtain this, so I contacted the operations manager at the practice (I was given their details by GTD healthcare, who were also excellent) who was extremely helpful and quick at dealing with my request.
I have also recently seen Dr Anwer and Dr Darlington, who have both been absolutely brilliant. Actually listened to the issues that I have explained, looked at finding alternatives to help with my long term chronic pain. I cannot fault the attitude or professionalism of either of these GP's. Thank you.

I would rate no stars if i could the staff are now writing reviews my new doctors are so much better and just doing there job, these are still Absolutely rubbish since the doctors left, been left since covid 2020 with no help that has left a lot of problems mental and physical, could of been resolved if I was having more help, glad i changed. My Partner is still signed up with them and having to change kids now due to the neglectful doctors. Surprised there not shut down yet.
