The receptionist with the grey hair and glasses spoke to me in an absolutely disgusting manner over the phone. Yet when I went in to the surgery she was very quick to apologise. Sent me to a+e where I was told I did not need to be here and it’s the fault of the “lazy GPs” who fob people off to a+e because they can’t be arsed to see people. Will be registering with a new doctors this place is a disgrace

After previous decent experience eventually (everything takes at least three appointments to get resolution), I am absolutely gob smacked by the behaviour of the reception team. My father was consultant-diagnosed with SEVERE osteoporosis and THREE fractured vertebrae. The consultant wrote to the GP requesting my father urgently be prescribed a particular pain medication, but the surgery wrote my father a letter saying he needs to make a face to face appointment for first pain prescription. Fine, so my father phones at 8am explaining, and the receptionist said in her opinion this is not urgent and the earliest appointment he is allowed to have is almost one month away. My father tried to explain but the receptionist clearly believes she is better qualified than the CONSULTANT to determine what is urgent. My father is suffering terribly, unnecessarily. I'm beyond shocked and will be following this up in a formal complaint.

Not great experience. One doctor mis diagnosed my daughter and she ended up in hospital. Also doctor nicum is so lazy she really shouldn't be there anymore! And they can't say to take issues up with them directly because they aren't interested in acting on any complaints which is why some doctors are still able to practice here!

If I could rate this with 0 stars I would. I’ve been with this practice for the past 17 years and it has only gotten worse over the years especially since the receptionist have been given power. They are rude and think they have to know everything about your health despite not being doctors themselves. One word to describe this surgery is NEGLECT. Patients who are paying for antibiotics and cannot leave their house due to the illness they have are refused phone calls with doctors and are expected to communicate with Doctors through the receptionists. To then be told to call 999 and get an ambulance instead when it’s not worthy of wasting 1st respondent recourses. They would happily accept photo evidence of illness for 2 years during covid times and now it’s impossible to get even get a phone call with your doctor.

Very difficult to get a face to face appointment unless having vaccine etc. I hate talking on the phone, and yet they insist on phone appointments. Difficult to discuss concerns over the phone especially mental health. Staff are friendly though.

The doctors and nurses have always been brilliant. A lot of the receptionists are helpful and respectful. However, contacts with some of the reception staff are often challenging. I called in today morning to book in an urgent appointment for my 3 year old about a non standard problem (even the doctor was not sure about the causes and asked to monitor it) , second appointment within a few days. I got quite a bit of unsolicited advice from the receptionist including “the doctor will probably just prescribe more cream". I think it is not right to offer advice at medical surgery by non-medical staff. I don't know if the reception staff has the duty of care. It can be dangerous to try to put people off booking appointments without even seeing the patient or having a full history.

The doctors at this practice have been amazing with our baby daughter. They always call back and see her the same day and are so quick at sorting out anything she needs. The staff on the phone are friendly and helpful and everyone goes above and beyond. At a time when GP’s are busy and overstretched I wanted to say they do a brilliant job! Often staying late and always reading the notes before hand.

The Valley Surgery has always been an excellent practice but truly excelled during Covid. When I heard the problems my friends were having to even get a phone appointment, I felt really lucky to be in the safe hands of the Valley. Needless to say that includes office staff and nurses as well as the gifted selection of GPS.
