This visit was my first for some years. I previously used this veterinary practice to care for my working dogs for many years. It was good then and is just as good now.. The reception and consulting rooms are spacious, which makes it easy to handle your animal, in my case, a large dog. Reception staff and clinicians were friendly and efficient. Came a cross as professional as you could find at any good hotel reception desk. 👍

2 times in 2 weeks to take our cats to the vet. Our lovely boy was too ill to make it. And didn't come home. Sad times.
Took our baby girl to them on sat . Thankfully, everything was OK

All staff at the Abivale are very friendly and vets and nurses are excellent with their animals. I have taking my cat there for 18 years now.

Quick appointment times for urgent care and putting comfort of pets first. Other vets in area give at least two week waiting period. Staff knowledgeable and on the ball. Thank you!

AVOID! They’ll prey on your emergency situation and overcharge you.

I have heard several times that this practice should be avoided and unfortunately had our own negative experience with them.

We found their night staff to have no empathy or compassion when our cat had to have an emergency out of hours catheter fitting recently. The emergency vet told us over the phone that we didn’t have the 20 minutes it would take for us to drive over to the practice, as our cat’s kidneys could already be failing and he could die. This, of course, sent us into panic mode resulting in us speeding down to the vets to get him seen as soon as possible.

When we arrived we had to pay half of his fee upfront before they would see him. Which after the way we were spoken to on the phone we of course felt we had to pay, otherwise our pet will die. Before his procedure I advised the vet that he has a motor neurone disease, as they are not our usual vet so don’t have his history. This was met with a response of ‘well we still have to do the procedure’. The same response was given when I informed them of what he had eaten recently to ensure there were as little complications with him going under anaesthetic as possible. We were purely ensuring they had all patient history necessary, so I am not quite sure why they felt the need to further push us into undergoing the procedure. I also informed them of the medication he was on and that he has not long come off his steroid treatment so may not be able to have certain medications. None of this was added to his notes and every new member of staff I spoke to appeared to have no knowledge of his pre existing condition.

The day staff general were pleasant but the treatment from the night staff had already left a negative impression.

Our cat had also clearly picked up on the stress the night vet had caused us as he was really suffering with anxiety during his stay at the vets. He has stayed at multiple practices for several nights during his motor neurone diagnosis and has never had any anxiety issues.

Less than 2 days of treatment and a short procedure to fit a catheter cost us a whopping £3,600 (over twice the amount our normal in hours vet charges). They also overcharged us for his maintenance whilst in the practice which I luckily caught when going over the invoice (although we are yet to receive this back)

We have raised all the issues above with the practice directly with little care or sympathy given.

If you can, I would avoid taking your pet here. There are much better practices locally to chose from. It is unfortunate this practice is one of the few that offers out of hours so they know they can extort their customers and they won’t have a choice but to pay up or lose their pet.

If you are one of the unfortunate people with no choice but to use this practice check your bill thoroughly.

So thankful for the lovely staff that first of all reassured me that everything would be ok over the phone, and secondly treated my working cocker with love and compassion after he swallowed a chicken skewer.
Would 100% recommend

Took my staff Bronson last week as an emergency and they were absolutely brilliant with him, normally he gets anxiety and trys to escape at the vets, but they were great and put him right at ease. Thank you Abivale bronson is so much better now.
