The team here are clearly under pressure. Some of the staff are very good, you sense that they might be wonderful if they had the time to care properly. As someone who works in healthcare, I am aware that you can’t offer your best when you are constantly overwhelmed by workload and not given enough time to do your job.

That being said, it is absolutely unacceptable to care so little about patients that you just fob them off. To have zero professional curiosity, even when patients are deteriorating in front of you, even when they are at their wits end.

We had a medical event in our family, one so serious that it was genuinely down to luck that they survived. Now we have changed surgeries, it is becoming apparent that this is something that could have been caught years earlier. In fact Rydings Hall had the information they needed, if they had not ignored it, or even if they had taken our concerns on board.

As a taxpayer, I don’t believe in suing the NHS. I’ve felt it is so wrong to try for compensation, and I still do - I just wouldn’t. But oh my, how I can now see why people have done it. Watching your loved one go from healthy and happy to being a few minutes from death - and you *still* get disinterest from the doctor. You know which doctor I’m talking about, if you attend Rydings. Everyone knows. His colleagues should have stepped in years ago.

I understand that some people are hypochondriacs. I understand that some people are not honest. I understand that in medicine, the most common answer is usually the right one. If you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras. That’s what we’re taught in healthcare. But not every time. This surgery will be the one who misses the cancer, misses the big one. I had a friend (not from this surgery) who was told her sudden inability to operate the washing machine was “the menopause”. That’s what happens when doctors aren’t curious or listening. People can die.

Other family members have been treated in different but also terrible ways at Rydings Hall. Put through emotional distress again and again as they battle with a chronic condition, associated anxiety and crushing depression. A developmental disorder which they had to fight to get diagnosed, after being fobbed off twice. The treatment from the surgery has made their condition worse, made it such a stressful experience to get help, that they began to have panic attacks before attending.

We have profoundly hard of hearing/physically disabled family members. Still, the only way to get an appointment is ring the surgery or walk down. Autistic people must be seen face to face for something that a pharmacist can prescribe online, no matter if you are clear that it will distress them.

When they have failed to respond to a query, you drive over and no one can help. You are asked to “pop back”. As if leaving work and travelling to the surgery is a bit of fun. How do those who can’t afford bus fares manage?

Again, I understand there are pressures on general practice. Someone has to be the gatekeeper of society’s funds, and it falls to GPs. But, this is a family who are educated and able to defend themselves. I absolutely shudder to think about other, even more vulnerable patients. I hate to think that one day, our child may be dependent on a surgery like this for his care.

For very different reasons, our family are each *very* lucky to still be here. And it is absolutely no thanks to this surgery.

Perhaps you think this is exaggerating. I’m afraid not. I had been so concerned for our GPs, in their difficult circumstances. But then you see how things are running in another surgery and that feeling turns to absolute disgust that you ever let yourself be fobbed off repeatedly, have your dignity broken, and come incredibly close to losing people you care for. Not because of a mistake that could happen to any doctor, but because of long-term choices by poor doctors.

If you are struggling with Rydings Hall Surgery, you can choose a new GP. They will guide you through the process.

Moved to the area and registered here. What a mistake! You can never get an appointment. You can be on hold for well over 30-40 mins and then when you do get through all the appointments are gone. I decided to figure out how to ask for help online through their online portal, which my previous practice were very good at utilising, only to be told nothing could be dealt with online and I had to see a GP and to call at 8am the following day. When I did see a GP at this practice (Dr Wilkinson) I was met with, 'what do you want?' as his opening line, no hello or how are you? ... No bedside manner at all. Awful practice. Only been registered here a matter of months and moving on already. AVOID!

My partner phoned the surgery requiring advice for her dad who was feeling ill and the receptionist was extremely helpful and understanding. She said the doctor would contact us to discuss my father in law. Within half an hour the doctor phoned and was very understanding and spoke to my partner asking the relevant questions. Obviously it's upsetting when your parents are ill and we couldn't praise the staff more for their advice and consideration. Excellent service and extremely polite and helpful. Thankyou for all your help. After reading the other replies I would like to say it was Dr Wilkinson who spoke to my partner and she couldn't praise him enough .Very caring and understanding he is an excellent doctor.
