The following review concerns my new patient registration experience at Leeds Road Practice. After moving house, I was initially encouraged when my previous GP assured me the transfer would be seamless through digital NHS patient records. Unfortunately, the reality proved more complex.

I appreciated being able to use the 'NHS Register with a GP' online service, which provided a reference number and estimated 5-day processing time. However, after 11 days without confirmation and with a repeat prescription becoming due, I needed to visit the practice in person. The reception staff did make efforts to help, noting my medication needs and following up on my registration.

While the practice eventually processed my registration, sending various login credentials via text, there were some confusing elements – particularly around accessing their website and locating a login portal. More concerning was the discovery that my prescription history appeared incomplete, showing only records from many years ago rather than recent medications. NHS guidance says my medical records are transferred automatically to a new GP once I register. This clearly didn’t happen.

My attempts to resolve this in person met with mixed responses. While one staff member seemed rather defensive, another helpfully suggested practical solutions for verifying my recent prescription history. This highlighted how individual staff members can make a significant difference to patient experience. I provided evidence as instructed (JPG images via email) but the practice responded saying they were unable to open them.

The NHS's digital transformation shows promise, but this experience reveals there's still work to be done in creating truly integrated systems between practices. While the intention to modernise is clear, the current reality of disconnected systems and administrative processes can create challenges for patients. Some improvements that could help:

- Clearer communication about registration timeframes
- More accessible online portal information
- Better integration of patient records between practices and improved technical training
- Consistent approach to patient queries across staff.

The practice has potential to improve these areas while building on their existing digital services.

My mum is 90 years old it took me 1 hour 17 minutes as her Carer to get through to speak to someone.
During my telephone call I was put on hold twice and then told she couldn’t have the vaccinations.

My mum is asthmatic and had four heart attacks in March this year.

I am told that you cannot offer her either the Flu or Covid vaccine. Quite disgraceful service to a vulnerable older person.

Even when she had a heart attack I was told she couldn’t have a home visit!!

Reference to this practice after attempting to end my life at Jorvik Gillygate Practice in York on the 28/07/23after there avoidance in dealing with the serious permanent health problems this can cause to some users.
Non of the authorities will deal with this medication (GABAPENTIN) & the incident was kept out of the media, police body cam & interview room footage has been edited as it shows things did not happen as they stated.

But this Practice has done the same & my GP said it is only fair that GPs get incentives to push medication to make there money (try working a 5 day week like everyone else on a lot less money).
You are all paid to put the patient health first not profit .

The health system will never work as a business as it's first focus is profit & as I have experienced they will let you suffer with a lot of serious health conditions &seem to have no problem.

No service offered for mental health & they tell me they pride there self's on there mental health care , it is no good six month after I am at my lowest.

They have left me on 8 to 10 laxatives a day for over a year & this was building up from the year with the previous Practice.

Well I can make myself suffer so I have fired/sacked this Practice from my care as they seem to be defrauding the tax payer receiving money to deal with my health care but all I seem to have had is prescriptions.

The NHS saved my life 37 years ago but times &people have changed so much.

The prescriptions service is absolutely appalling and incompetent. This is already a second occasion when they completely failed to carry out their job. Last time I had an urgent prescription the lady at prescriptions was super rude and told me the prescription was sent to the pharmacy, when I went the re I was told it was not sent. I came back and advised it was not sent and with a really horrible attitude she was telling me off that it was sent, then check and realised she has not done it!!
Now today again I had an urgent prescription and was told it will be done today, when I checked with the prescriptions if it will defo be done as last time it was not again they were totally rude. As I went to the pharmacy I was told nothing came through. I came back to the practise and was told it was! After returning 4 times to the practice and 3 to the pharmacy I still have NO MEDICATION as the prescriptions issued the wrong code! Absolutely incompetent and rude team.

Rude, Arrogant and unhelpful reception. I relayed that it is not my job to chase the hospital as they won't speak with me. She replies aggressively that it's not her job. I pointed out how rude she sounded. Then she put the phone down on me. Disgusting. Avoid.

Thank you so much to the lovely receptionist I spoke to last week when my baby was unwell. I rang at 8am, had a call back within an hour then we were seen at 10am. Dr Barker was really thorough in her assessment as well as kind and reassuring. She even rang me later in the day to see how we were getting on. Thanks again for a great service despite all the pressure GP is under!

Decent experience with GP would score them 4 out of 5. You need ask for extra time if you want to discuss more than one issue. How holistic an approach this is not sure. Pharmacy not great..several issues and just not handled in a kindly manner even when clearly their fault. Receptionists vary some better than others and can be a bit inconsistent. When you do visit the surgery now it is generally v quiet with lots of staff and not many patients . Think the website around e consults could be clearer and simpler and also it would be preferable if patients could do these on an evening bearing in mind many of us work! I do worry people who are sick maybe put off and give up because of the challenges.
